If councils treat it as "not our jurisdiction," the company's pitch has already worked. Duty means asking the hard questions about power, water, data sovereignty + consultation before it's a done deal. #yqrcc

The loop only moves heat around. It still gets rejected into the air, and "closed" doesn't mean zero water (initial fill, top-ups, some facilities still use evaporative towers in hot weather). #yqrcc

On a coal-reliant grid, that power has a carbon cost. Saving water by burning more coal-generated electricity is a trade-off, not a win. The heat still has to go somewhere. #yqrcc

“closed loop" gets used as a magic phrase to shut down people who are concerned with water usage. The more accurate point is that it fixes one problem by making another worse. Ward #yqrcc

colonialists —they are coming in to take advantage of the resources, the people, cheap land, and the ability to just bulldoze and push through without any regulations or pushback. #yqrcc

5/ A resident came to give feedback & got a cross-examination. Delegations aren't engineers. Worrying about water and power is a valid reason to show up. When you invite people into your home and then try and belittle them, just deplorable behaviour. #yqrcc

2/ She is a resident w. a health care background who is studying water conservation. This is exactly who public consultation is supposed to hear from. city councillors & admin say they do not hear from residents, we’ll here is someone who wants to share her concerns on very important issues. #yqrcc

Or… you get a car and things are accessible w/in a 15/20min window again. But then that adds THOUSANDS of dollars to your budget every year. This is the eight ball you put low income families behind. But car culture is so ingrained, nobody can see how fucking odd & inequitable this is. #yqrcc

For low income families, b/c of basic medical being located impossible distances away & having very poor transit access, stuff that in a sane city would be 15min away by foot or transit requires taking a half day or even a full day off work. #yqrcc

& FTR, I get this seems like a mere inconvenience. But this is just an example of the ways that Regina has been designed to be very unlivable. If you don't have a car — & an income to support a car — many basic amenities are incredibly difficult to access. Medical care is a big one. #yqrcc

Some of this city's road design choices were supremely horrible. But… that's been a running theme through much of my city hall writing over the last 20 years so I'm sure you're all tired of my ranting. But seriously, jesus fuck… It's like traffic engineers hate people. #yqrcc
