Upon the sand a stone rests near.
While crystal waters softly gleam.
A tall white beacon rises clear.
Reflecting in a coastal dream.
It stands where the ocean meets the sky.
As peaceful clouds go drifting by.

Whatever is
Talked about
Seldom what
Is actually said

Obliquely glimpsed
Though seldom
Acknowledged

Though sometimes
It can be

Spoken out loud

"My poor neighbor's not much of a saver,
So I did her a favor and gave 'er
Some financial advice.
Her reply was 'No dice!
I shall buy what I savor. Won't waver!'"

Only a glimmer of passion
remains in a look
a smile
Hints of past lives and joys
eludes

I am destined to chase my past
Caught up in empty nostalgia
based on dead dreams

A PRAYER FOR THE MOUNTAINS

Let these peaks have happened

The hawk-haunted knobs & hollers
The blind coves dense as meditation
The white rock-face, the laurel hells
The terraced pasture ridge
With its broom sedge combed back by wind:
Let these have taken place, let them be place...
