I finished #SpringoftheBlade (great stuff but nowhere near depth of #AgainsttheCurrent) & now rewatching #AlchemyofSouls Season 2 while waiting for episodes to drop. Sick in bed with virus so dramas & books for me.

My reservation is more dramatic:

by this stage they’re husband & wife, have a child, & the Shen past still matters deeply to her

Given that he also recovered & took care of her family’s remains, I wish the drama had allowed that truth to become part of their intimacy sooner

Also started #AProphet and binged #LoveAtNight #cdrama to get more #LiuXueYi while #AgainstTheCurrent makes its way slowly with 1-ep drops, but I had to ffwd through most of the best friend/brother scenes or I may have DNF’d.

Add it to my list of dramas where the 2MC makes it unwatchable.

I personally have one little complaint about the writing of #AgainstTheCurrent since few eps. It's regarding her character. I wished they would show me more her insights: her doubts, insecurities or flaws. She's a bit too perfec for my taste. Do you know what I mean. I'm ok with her not telling but

all the praise for Liu Xue Yi’s acting is well-deserved
it even seems like he’s experiencing Lin Qi’s happiness so i wonder if they brought in a real baby for this scene for his expression to look so real 🤭

I love them together - & I hope the writers give us an emotionally satisfying resolution by the end - but I wish this part of their relationship had been given more room to breathe; & that the truth had finally been shared already! (although there’s still time of course)

Instead Jinqi has been written oddly passive about suspicions he had 20+ eps ago, & only now - with 6 eps to go! - is he starting to ask questions. It makes Jialan seem strangely withholding & Jinqi implausibly incurious

And most significantly, she still hasn’t told her husband she is a Shen - even after he recovered & buried her family’s remains; even after they’ve had a child together!

I’m still very much loving #AgainstTheCurrent, but one reservation I have is how the romance has been handled

Just when Jialan finally seemed to soften towards Jinqi, we got a time-skip - domestic married life & pregnancy - without really getting to see their new intimacy develop

not to mention, taking his wife’s slaps 😂

i think he has the right to faint after all that when the person he loves most bled out giving birth to their baby

Wasn’t able to watch #AgainstTheCurrent for the past few days so stayed off here. Caught up last night and this morning.

Mostly quickly pushing story through several years - with deaths, marriages, and babies! Good to see Lin family back together and that the maids found happiness with good men.
