Yesterday: a type predicate is a promise, not proof.

Here’s where that becomes dangerous 👀

Add a new field to `User`, forget to update `isUser`

and TypeScript can still compile.

The type changed.
The runtime guard didn’t.

Yesterday I mentioned that `value is User` is a promise, not proof.

Here’s the maintenance bug that follows:

Add a field to `User`, forget to update the hand-written guard, and TypeScript can still compile. 👀

The type evolved.

The runtime validation quietly stayed behind.

React 20's ref cleanup functions let you return a function from ref callbacks to automatically remove event listeners, solving memory leaks without needing useEffect or separate cleanup logic.

I have been working on grouping a variety of assets, primarily this Keijiro gentlemans project, Metavido, which used iOS LiDAR to re-model live data in 3D! I converted the system for in game cameras and Voila!

A TypeScript Type Guard Is a Promise, Not Proof

A hand-written type predicate can still compile even when its runtime implementation no longer checks every field in the type.

That small gap becomes interesting once the type starts evolving.

TypeScript type guard finding 👀

A return type like:

`value is User`

is a promise made by the function — not proof that the runtime implementation actually checks every field.

That gap can quietly become a maintenance problem.

Anyone tried Jev yet? I'm curious how people are using it. It might be a better state-based classifier than using a traditional LLM, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. #ai #artificialintelligence #llm #models #typescript

Reducers derive the next immutable snapshot; they do not emit state or control pipeline flow. Keep state derivation separate from side effects so each transition has one clear responsibility. Keep the principle in mind for your next state change.

There’s a TypeScript side to `filter(Boolean)` too. 👀

It removes falsy values at runtime, but `Boolean` isn’t a type guard.

So TypeScript doesn’t generally know that `null` and `undefined` are gone.
