Of #quartz I have a pick today for #MinCup26 ! 🧪⚒️💎

My mineralogy students might have a favorite specimen, but it's hard to tell why.

Clear quartz crystals, Mt. Ida and Alaska Unlabeled quartz crystal mass, in a vaguely suggestive habit.Amethyst geode, Morocco

My vote in honor of a former mentor, Dr Onasch, of quartz 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😉

It is.....I just bought some earlier this year. I love it, however, #Quartz is how #MinCup was started by Dr. Dempsey and I was there magically as it happened🌌🪄 Have been ever since. #TeamQuartz

Recently, we were at the Baltic Sea and there you can find plenty of agate nodules. Agate is microcrystalline SiO2, a very dense and hard material. Mostly, it's dull grey, but it can look very striking if cut, and you can sometimes find small drusy quartz inclusions. #Quartz #MinCup26

Grey agate with small drusy quartzAnother piece of agate with a small spot of drusy quartz. It's less than 1 cm in diameter, so my phone camera made a poor job capturing the details.Slice of agate

I decided to be a #Quartz Fan Account this year. Huge crystals, so many colors and so many useful applications 🥰

#Quartz deserves the win. It's the reason that started #MinCup.

P.S. How can you not vote for #Quartz after reading something so spectacular? #MinCup26

@phaneritic.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 4:13 AM

Vote #quartz and tell that other poser where to sticht it.

@warriorchicken.meSep 20, 2026, 1:53 AM

#Quartz is the first mineral ever heard of, back in 1966. It got my vote in the first round, and I’m happy to repeat in round 2

Besides, who doesn’t love amethyst?

#MinCup26 #Quartz is super common and is an irritating end to a day at the beach. Vote #Stichtite, it's rare and soft - it would never make your Speedo crunch like Doritos.

#Quartz!

It can be anywhere! It forms and thrives in all three rock types.
It grows protective covers over soft minerals.
There are so many varieties, colors, shapes, sizes, textures.
It does fun things like create a charge if heated or stressed.
Smash it and it glows!
Vote #Quartz!

I'm going for #Quartz to the end in #MinCup26! Need another reason to vote #Quartz? In @actacrystb.iucr.org, Fricke and Thomas modelled how its SiO₄ tetrahedra distort and tilt as temperature changes, then used that to predict the α- and β-structures at new temps! journals.iucr.org/b/issues/202...

@alexwitze.bsky.socialSep 20, 2026, 12:53 AM

Boy, it is hard to go for #quartz but stichtite is so not a mineral. What is this very soft thing? Not a mineral, sorry not sorry

Vote #Quartz #MinCup26
