Symbolic Tensions - Lake District Observations

📷Pentax 17
🎞️Ilford XP2 400 developed with DDX

#believeinfilm #lakedistrict

A black and white half frame diptych of two photographs symbolising the tension found in the countryside. The first photograph is of a wooden gate allowing public access to the Lake District fells beyond. The second photograph is of agricultural fencing combined with barbed wire. Together, they illustrate the constant negotiation between common environmental heritage and private agricultural utility - a reminder that even the wildest spaces are carefully managed and partitioned.

Sam Read, Bookseller established 1887, Grasmere, Cumbria.
A beautiful location in the English Lake District.
Grasmere has many literary connections including William Wordsworth one of the Lake Poets.

The image shows Sam Read Bookseller, an independent bookshop located in the village of Grasmere in the English Lake District.
It is housed in a traditional Lakeland stone building with slate roofing.
Open since 1887, making it one of the oldest independent bookshops in the north of England.
It stocks a wide range of books including local interest books, guides and maps, and the works of the Lake Poets.
There can be few places in England that can lay claim to so many literary connections, from William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and the Romantics, to John Ruskin, Beatrix Potter, EM Forster, Arthur Ransome and Malcolm Lowry.

Another one from earlier in the summer that I've just rediscovered. The full flush of summer greens, plus a little bit of mist.

Three from the weekend. Lovely sunset in the Eden Valley. September gives soft evening light and stunning cloud formations after a showery day. Magical.

An awesome #ArcticCharr announcement... as we're delighted to share that following an award from Natural England’s #SpeciesRecoveryProgramme we will soon be growing our team to support an ambitious new phase of work to secure the future of #Charr in the #LakeDistrict.

An awesome Arctic charr announcement to start the week... as the FBA is delighted to share that we will soon be growing our team to support an ambitious new phase of work to secure the future of one of England’s most threatened freshwater fish.

Following the award of £690,000 from Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme (SRP), we're excited to be strengthening our team to support delivery of the Lake District Charr Recovery & Management (LD-CHARM) project. The funding marks a significant step forward for our species recovery programme, supporting conservation action to help protect Arctic charr and the freshwater ecosystems on which they depend.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this transformational grant from the Natural England Species Recovery Programme. The LD-CHARM partnership is thrilled to continue delivering clear, evidence-based steps towards recovering Arctic charr populations in England. Local populations of little-known species like the Arctic charr are at risk of silently slipping into extinction. This investment will help us lay the foundations for meaningful conservation action for this Ice-age relic.”
— Dr. Louise Lavictoire, Head of Science, FBA
