#FantasyIndiesSeptember 20. Words you tend to overuse
I don't know about specific words, but phrases like "raised an eyebrow" and "gave him/her a Look" pop up a lot when I'm writing 😂

Day 20 of #FantasyIndiesSeptember
In my Oracle of Delphi series WIP, so far the Number One word I use the most is SANCTUARY. I don't dare count how many times I've used it! 🤣
20: Words you tend to overuse
"Finally" used to be the bane of my existence, but for the past two books nobody has complained about overuse of words anymore, so I don't know.
Day 20. Words you tend to overuse.
I'm not sure.

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 20:
Funnily enough, I was called out for using “gods damn it” too much in “Ashes of Eden,” which was true.
I tend to use adverbs. Deep down, Elysia still believes the world is a beautiful place, which is the reason for her purple way of describing it.

Day 20
The number one word I overuse is "just." So many times! And I'm very aware of it, but it just comes out. Like that!
Other words: a little bit, smiled, stood, awesome.

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 20: Words you overuse. "That" and "just" are my nemeses. When I do my first full-pass edit of a new manuscript, the first thing I do is search for those words. If I can't justify the use, out they go! #WritingCommunity
20. Words you tend to overuse
Oh my gonads. I have a 3 page document "Basic Writing Improvement List" with all my recurring favorites.
Some of the ringers include:
👉🏽 Figure out 🧐
👉🏽 Make out 🤨
👉🏽 Give up 🫴🏽
👉🏽 At the thought 💭
👉🏽 Gasp 😮💨
I will spare you the entire list. 🤓
Admittedly, most of the words I tend to overuse small, transitional words like 'that' a lot. I've also noticed I can overuse a character's eyes as a way of showcasing expressiveness.
It's one of many things I'm working on improving in my craft...
#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 20
I overuse the usual: "just" "really" "very" "seem"... Also "as if" and "as though"... But I'm getting better at weeding them out during editing!

Over used words
I likely have many but while editing i found it seemed to be - looked, grabbed, nodded and just.

#fantasyindiesseptember Day 20 Overused words
For some reason, I really love the word "scythe" and seem to use it in at least half my books!
20. Definitely flowed. I use that word a lot.
20. Words you tend to overuse
I tend to use "in spite of" or "despite" wayyy too much lol. Also "pleasure" 😆 there's only so many ways to describe sex, ok #fantasyindiesseptember
19. Saturday snippet #fantasyindiesseptember
I try and stop myself from using the same body language on the same character too frequently.
Body language is a great way to show personality, but how often do you really pinch the bridge of your nose?
20. Words you tend to overuse
I have a list of ~75 words that I look for during line edits, and many of them are these. (It grows with every project 🫠)
Breath
Hands
Half- (half-finished etc.)
Glance
Leaning on things
Manage and offer, esp. in dialogue tags
MANY more...
tilted, "made my way", sighed, frowned, looked
#FantasyIndiesSeptember 20: Words I tend to overuse
I overuse "nod" a lot and specifically edit to keep my characters from coming off like Bobbleheads.
There are others. Really, all of the usual suspects.
