#FlyDay
I do believe this is a female so she would not be flying, the males are the ones I see on the wing.

Head and torso (thorax?) shot of a green European praying mantis with edgings of orange and yellow. She is clinging to the side of my house. I've also seen males on the wing who are probably looking for her. It isn't hard to get a head when you are this gorgeous. πŸ€πŸ’€

We are having one last burst of warmth in New England before fall settles in for good. The bees are making the best of it! My asters are absolutely covered in these pure green sweat bees, Augochlora pura #bugsky #nativebees #savethebees #plantnative

Macro of a Hawaiian beet webworm moth in a head-on portrait. Facing directly forward, she has large, prominent patterned compound eyes and a dark brown face with fine, pale scales lining her vertex. Her long, slender antennae extend upward and back out of the frame. Her folded wings show rich dark brown margins and a hint of a bold, bright white structural band cutting through the dark coloration. The subject focused against the rich texture of a dried brown Bidens alba seed head and soft background bokeh.

A Butterbutt Fly for #flyday, Belvosia borealis, a Tachinid that parasitizes Ceratomia hawk moths. #insects #diptera #gardening 🌱 #bugsky

A large bristly black fly with two prominent yellow bands on the end of its abdomen sits on a passiflora leaf.Another view of the Butterbutt fly from the butt end. The yellow bands on the abdomen have a greenish iridescence and a row of black spiky bristles between them, also the fly has yellow feet which I think are kinda cute for some reason. Not great on IDing bees and wasps, so after seeing lots of people posting pictures and videos of Ivy Bees I thought I'd have a look today. Was chuffed to find a few on the first big clump of ivy I checked! πŸ˜ƒ

Seven-spot Ladybird, sometimes shortened to C-7, which is certainly easier to remember than its scientific moniker - Coccinella septempunctata. My fat fingers for scale.
