Famously, Candix A&R man Joe Saraceno played “Surfin’” by The Pendletones for Russ Regan, who was a young promotions man for Candix/Era Records at the time. Saraceno wanted to call them The Surfers… but Regan came up with a better ‘surf-themed’ name… #RussRegan #BeachBoys #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Legend says that Joe Saraceno helped Russ Regan put “The Happy Reindeer” together. Joe is also a fellow US #OneHitWonder honoree! The Hot 100 era began the week of August 4, 1958... #33 that week was the novelty dance-craze cash-in, “The Freeze,” by Tony and Joe. #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Russ Regan is one of those behind-the-scenes music men who keep popping up… Regan earned US #OneHitWonder honors in 1959 with the Christmas novelty hit “The Happy Reindeer,” credited to Dancer, Prancer and Nervous (obviously inspired by the success of the Chipmunks). #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Walter Stewart sent Stonebolt material by Los Angeles songwriters to consider... The band recorded another set of demos, reportedly four songs, and one of the outside compositions supplied to them was Bob Strauss’ “I Will Still Love You.” #OneHitWondered

It's been said that Walter Stewart took Stonebolt’s demo tape back to LA and told Johnny Rivers about them... Rivers also became interested in “Sail On,” later recording a loose version of the song as well. #JohnnyRivers #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Johnny Rivers’ road manager Walter Stewart was in Vancouver during Rivers’ “Swayin’ to the Music" tour... Stonebolt’s manager got a demo tape into Stewart’s hands, and, reportedly, Stewart flipped out over ‘Sail On.” He ultimately became their producer. #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

J.C. Phillips co-wrote “Sail On” with Stonebolt guitarist/vocalist Ray Roper… On their 1978 LP, Phillips was also credited as co-producer on “Sail On,” “I Will Still Love You,” & “Queen of the Night,” while Walter Stewart received the overall producer credit. I don’t know who he is… #OneHitWondered

A pivotal moment for Stonebolt involved a demo… According to band legend, they cut a demo of “Sail On” using a 4-track machine that was in such rough shape that their manager literally had to hold the play/record mechanism down by hand while they were recording. #Stonebolt #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

“The End” would be Earl Grant’s only US #Top40 pop hit, but hardly the end of his success. His organ instrumental “Sweet Sixteen Bars” reached #9 on Billboard’s R&B chart in 1962… and his recordings of standards made him a popular album/nightclub performer. #EarlGrant #OneHitWondered #MusicSky
