When Glenna’s initial #LungCancer treatment failed, biomarker testing gave her doctors the key to a targeted treatment. Today, she has no evidence of disease.

In 2023 – when Glenna was diagnosed – only 2 treatments were approved for HER2+ NSCLC. Now, thanks to research, there are 4. LCRF.org/fall26

#LungCancer often arises in narrow, fragile spaces deep in the lungs. These tumours can be hard to biopsy – so Chukwudozie Ubosi is developing a tiny robotic device made of soft materials. Using AI-assisted magnetic steering to navigate the lung, the robot will enable easier, safer #cancer biopsies.

Wildfire smoke exposure is linked to higher #LungCancer risk and lower survival rates. Kenneth Ofori-Amanfo is studying how lung cells react to smoke and how this contributes to #cancer risk. The work could eventually lead to better prevention and new targeted treatments for people with lung cancer.

Today is #WorldRadiotherapyAwarenessDay.

We're highlighting some of our staff who are working on the TOURIST Platform Trial, the world's largest #ClinicalTrial using radiotherapy in the treatment of metastatic #LungCancer.

Swipe through the images below 👇 and find out more at bit.ly/3K5GVMO

An orange themed graphic with a circular photo of Senior Medical Statistician, Kayleigh Hill, on the left and her quote on the right, which says "Clinical trials are so important to help us understand how we can improve treatment and quality of life for patients. The TOURIST Platform Trial is helping give us more evidence about the role of radiotherapy for treating patients with advanced lung cancer.

As a statistician, I am responsible for analysing the patient data that comes in and it's exciting to be working on a trial that, if successful, could potentially see radiotherapy being used to treat more people in the future." At the bottom is the hashtag #WordlRadiotherapyAwarenessDay and the WRAD and SCTU logos. An orange themed graphic with a circular photo of Senior Trial Manager, Nicky Downs, on the left and her quote on the right, which says "Raising awareness of the role of radiotherapy in cancer care is so important especially as over half of people with cancer require radiotherapy. Radiotherapy, or radiation therapy, is a cancer treatment that uses beams of high-energy to kill cancer cells and shrink tumours. Radiotherapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments like surgery or chemotherapy. I am the Senior Trial Manager for the TOURIST Platform Trial that incorporates studies of thoracic radiotherapy in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)." Through my role as an Oncology Clinical Trial Manager at the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit, I am proud and privileged to support the QUARTZ LUNG trial within the TOURIST platform, which is helping us understand how radiotherapy can better control symptoms and preserve quality of life for people with advanced lung cancer." It’s #WorldRadiotherapyAwarenessDay.

Radiotherapy can also play an important role in ALK+ #lungcancer. It may be used to treat cancer in the brain or other parts of the body, control one or a small number of areas that have started growing, or relieve symptoms.
