Blue Core Project aims to continue developing the product to meet the needs of the community as it moves to a truly shared cataloguing environment - one description for one resource - a future-open distribution channel for BIBFRAME; one community producing a shared knowledgebase #bfwe2026

Nancy Lorimer presents the Blue Core MVP (minimum viable product) at the Bibframe Workshop in Europe ( #bfwe2026 ). Blue Core aims to produce "a community-operated, shared BIBFRAME datastore" (https://bluecore.info/). Nancy also shared a link to the dev environment: https://dev.bcld.info

Blue Core supports interoperability via API Endpoints - open data and open code.
The MVP has enough features to be usable by early adopters who can then provide feedback for future development

Blue Core MVP (minimum viable product) - URIs are shared across institutions with lookups to trusted library-orientated vocabularies supporting shared bib descriptions with editors (Sinopia & Marva) to PCC cataloguing levels.
Adaptable, enriched and interoperable BIBFRAME data. #bfwe2026

BIBFRAME data is non-hierarchical graph data - this is the beauty and the mess! - It doesn't preclude hierarchy, but it also doesn't require it - it simple links resources and their characteristics together via their relationships. #bfwe2026

BIBFRAME vocabulary/ontology is largely unconstrained in order to have greater flexibility of expression across the complexity of bibliographic data and resources across domains #bfwe2026

@emmabooth.eurosky.socialSep 8, 2026, 7:44 AM

In BIBFRAME, Hubs take over the traditional role of "access points" and can be leveraged to represent RDA Works or RDA (Representative) Expressions.
BIBFRAME Items can map to RDA Items.
RDA in BIBFRAME is possible!
- There will be more detail in the Mapping and Modelling sessions of #bfwe2026 Day 2

@emmabooth.eurosky.socialSep 8, 2026, 7:44 AM

BIBFRAME is content model agnostic whereas RDA is a content model.
RDA abstracts resources into Works, Expressions, Manifestations and Items - more complex than BIBFRAME but less related to how humans actually perceive the bibliographic universe! #bfwe2026

@emmabooth.eurosky.socialSep 8, 2026, 7:44 AM

Works represent the conceptual essence of a resource whereas an Instance represents an individual embodiment of a Work. - A Work can have multiple Instances, e.g. physical versus electronic.
#BIBFRAME Entities do not have a 1:1 mapping to RDA Entities - this is a feature, not a bug.

One achievement not on the original plan for the year was a BIBFRAME Primer: bibframe.org/docs/view/do...
A user guide for those who would like to represent “bibliographic resources,” (collection resources managed by a cultural organization, mainly libraries) using BIBFRAME.

Had a bit of a break from posting on BlueSky over the summer - now back and looking forward to joining the BIBFRAME Workshop in Europe online tomorrow #bfwe2026 - especially as I'll be doing some BIBFRAME training in October with @libjuiceacademy.bsky.social
