The lump of gypsum on my desk on a #SilentSunday morning

A block of gypsum about 8c centimetres thick on a wooden desk. It is lit by sunlight and sparkles. Gypsum bands grow as vertical needles across horizontal beds, and the vertical crystals can be seen on the broken sides. A vein or relict of dark brown mudstone can be seen halfway up the near edge but it doesn't persist far into the gypsum.

A bumblebee hovers near a spike of purple loosestrife in this sunny late-summer photograph. On a very close look, a shining blur reveals the bee’s fast-beating wings. Loosestrife’s brilliant purple blossoms grow in circular rows up the long spikes, blooming in crowds of loose trumpet-like flowers. The bright sunlight picks out the veins in their thin petals and accents the dark tips of their outstretched stamens. More loosestrife blurs the background in pleasant green and purple.
