Nix has been physically attracted to so many boys in his life, but once he gets to know who they are inside, he loses interest. Max is the first boy this doesn't happen with, which means he's the only boy he can never get over.

Yes. Azrael falls in love with Theo because of his beautiful soul.

Theo has been through multiple battles with cancer and had to have open heart surgery at 3 days old.

But despite all this, he’s still a kindhearted generous person willing to go out of his way to help a stranger. #QueerPrompts

Not so much beauty exactly as gender expression. Though there will be at least one moment between Val and Jake about his scars, which he sees a a reminder of his weakness and she sees as evidence of his selflessness and courage

A Work of Art (out next month!) sort of touches on this. The main characters are an artist who sketches a nude model. The model is beautiful, which isn't a requirement for figure drawing, and the artist likes her for more than obvious charms.

Not really. (I had to think about this one a bit.)

I guess the phantom thief forms show their true inner selves? Does that count? (William becoming an androgynous waif, Leo just straight up becoming a dude...)

That could be a form of inner beauty, I suppose.

That's not really a focus of my work. Raven & Bear focuses more on leadership, curiosity and courage. I think it can be worthwhile to have stories about inner beauty but I'm not interested in writing it.

The fantasy touches on differing ideas of aesthetics (popular vs counterculture) but also draws on what's deep inside as a magical force that deserves to be seen.

In a way. One of the MCs of #TY4LM is a flavour of trans and has to hide who they really are from one of the other MCs. This leads to worries and confrontations stemming from the central thought "Do they love me for who I am or just what I present on the surface to the world?"

I think it does, but in an indirect way. I don't think I ever have an actual monologue about what constitutes beauty, but I think the protagonist represents both surface beauty (as he's quite cute), and inner beauty (as he's an 🧵

Sort of! Cole is very focused on his own outer appearance, and making sure he looks good at all times and is polite and charming. But it's because he doesn't want anyone to know what a mess he is underneath.

Ezra, though, really wants Cole to be comfortable and happy on the inside.
