I stayed up late last night to finish Local Gods by @melindasalisbury.com & hoo boy! I knew it would be creepy, a modern folk horror, but it did not go where I expected! I don't know what to say without spoilers, but it was unputdownable #KidLitUK #UKYA

Why do I like it: Lucas’s ability to delineate character through dialogue is extraordinary. Every single person here feels solid and real. Elias, our narrator, also has a very distinctive and believable voice. All so meticulously observed. The difficult family situation is drawn sensitively and with compassion, and it is a very hopeful story. I enjoyed it immensely.
