23. Where to put commas.

#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 23
I don't struggle with grammar rules, I just break them. I start sentences with "and" and "but" all the time. I end in prepositions. For formal pieces, I follow the rules. In novel writing, it's more about style, voice and impact. I worked 1st as an editor, so...
23. What grammar rule(s) do you struggle with?
I'm generally good with grammar (ignore Bsky). However, the region I'm from has a quirk where some people drop “to be” after “needs” and similar constructions. Needs done, needs washed, etc.
I Do. Not. See. It. 🫠

Day 23
I tend to keep it simple. Yet I do enjoy commas. One of my edits is always going back through the WIP to take some of those longer sentences with commas and make them two separate sentences.
Thanks @lvrussell.bsky.social @chesneyinfalt.bsky.social
I am the type where occasionally I will stare at a word, and I know it's spelled right, but something in my brain goes "No it ain't" and I HAVE to go look it up to check.
I will never kick this habit.
23) Grammar rules I struggle with
This is more punctuation than grammar. I do this for a living and my job has ruined my ability to tell where hyphens go!
Nobody uses them correctly. The web tool's spellchecker has a personal vendetta against hyphens.
And I overuse commas

What grammar rules do you struggle with?
Commas are confounding on the best of days 😅
#FantasyIndiesSeptember 23: What grammar rules do I struggle with?
All of them. None of them. I write the way I want to write and then go back and fix anything editors flag as being off. There's usually not a lot. Must have had good teachers. I don't spend much time thinking about grammar rules.
#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 22: Autumn TBR
My TBR order changes due to book club, library holds, and vibes, but as of today the next ones are The Silence of the Girls (Pat Barker), The Deadly Detective Agency (Ann Parker) & This Book May Cause Side Effects (Helen Pilcher).
Autumn TBR: Oh geez, where to start?
-The Bane of the Black Sword
-Stormbringer
-The Collected Poetry of Robert E. Howard, Volume 2
-The Flowered Blade by Taylor Hubbard
-Steal the Dragon by Patricia Briggs
And those are just on the shortlist!
Day 22 of #FantasyIndiesSeptember
I don't know what's on my autumn TBR yet. Too soon to tell.
#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 22
My list is very small, I don't have a lot of time to read these days. It turns out, publishing a book is a full time job and it's not even my day job 😂
For now: The Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance by @chiarab.bsky.social
1. The NEED anthology ( @motthepaladin.bsky.social has a story in it!)
2. Prometheus: A Queer Futuristic Horror Anthology by Snakeskin Press
3. Root Rot by Sarah Read
4. A Head Full Of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay
5. Lucy Undying by Kiersten White

I don't really have a seasonal reading list tbh. However, when I want to get into the spirit of it, like this time's spooky season, I would reread classics like Dracula, Sleepy Hollow, Frankenstein, etc.
#FantasyIndiesSeptember Day 22: Your autumn TBR. I don't have seasonal reading lists; I just have one and it's pretty long right now. My current reads are Works of Edith Wharton (on and off), Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro, and I just started Primitive People by Francine Prose last night.
#fantasyindiesseptember Day 22 Autumn TBR
I'm currently reading some great books!
Harmony's Emberace by @amberdaultonauthor.bsky.social
Rescuing Unicorns by Renee Marski
22) I'm reading Margo's Got Money Troubles right now. After that, I want to read The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig and A Great and Powerful Tyranny by Victoria Carbol. Then I'd like to end the fall with a Little Women reread. #FantasyIndiesSeptember
21) The villains of the story are a bit of a spoiler but I would say they're pretty power hungry. An argument could be made for Auri, as well. #FantasyIndiesSeptember
