That flying anavah said they were trying to save us from the Prophesized Ruination," said Tom.

Do you think there's a traitor? Who?

A small town at night. There are mountains in the background. A stream is running beside the main road. Cacti and palms are growing around the buildings.

The picture is from Leonardo and is meant to Siglanti at night, before it became a ghost town.

How well do you think this chapter portrays people's reactions to terrorist attacks?

Some small buildings on a barren mountainside. Some are exploding. In red light.

The picture is from Ideogram and is meant to be Beit Lokhen being attacked.

There is an accidental reference to The Room in Little Bird that I left in because it makes me snort every time I read it.

So your picture's coming together but it isn't making sense. Perhaps you have more than one player and more than one agenda but that's just speculation.

A chart comparing "Lord of the Rings", "The Wheel of Time", "The Chronicles of Narnia", "Dune", "The Dragonriders of Pern", "Harry Potter" and the "Tales of Midbar".

As this chapter isn't very visual, I decided to have this chart of how I think the "Tales of MIdbar" series compares to other series, which I suspect appeal to similar people. Do you agree with this assessment? Do you think I'm missing something or I've got something wrong?

No Miracles

In eight days, it will be a year since I talked to her.
Yay me, I guess…
She was pretty horrible to me, but that was over 2 years ago.
It seems I’ve misplaced the grisly details, or she wouldn’t be playing on my mind.

If I could stop thinking about her, I would.
But here we are, with me writing about her.
I still wouldn’t Spotless Mind her though.
Over the four years I knew her, I grew a lot.
I could never give that up though she wasn’t responsible for my growth.
She was certainly the environment where it happened.

I have to get something out here… I have no idea what.
I think I’m stupid when it comes to her and always was.
Still, it seems like there’s unfinished business there.
But I don’t feel that way about anyone else I have ever been with.
Only her.
She’s become tiny moments of weakness that are happening frequently.

She comes in waves, and I’m expecting to dry soon from the last one.
Hopefully she will then go away… not that she was ever here.
I have been in this pattern before.
Three times, to be exact.

They didn’t leave my mind until a new relationship came along.
It will happen for me eventually.
Until then I get stuck in daydreams of “if she came back right” or
“what if she developed empathy, at least for me.”

Those thoughts are really laughable though.
People who don't want to change, don't.
Our years together proved that.

There are no miracles coming from her.
Her hollow words never produced them either.
I make my own miracles now.
That’s lonely sometimes and thinking of her is better than nothing.
