#writersCoffeeClub 8. Tell us about someone who supports you on the sidelines.

My husband.

What he means to me, to my process, and my peace of mind cannot be explained. He is my refuge when the process has been mean to me, and the one I turn to when I want to celebrate. When my mind is tangled […]

Definitely not my cat. She is evil in a cuddly way.

Many people are supportive. They let me talk about my WIP without their eyes glossing over.

#WritersCoffeeClub 10/8: "Tell us about someone who supports you on the sidelines."

Sarai Pahla, a woman who immigrated to Germany from South Africa. We have been friends for more than a decade now. As she is a translator for Japanese medical texts, she understands the field of #translation […]

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 8. Tell us about someone who supports you on the sidelines.

I'm supported by too many people to mention them individually. Hundreds of people contribute every month to financially support me so that I can explore and write about meditation and Buddhist practice. I feel […]

Tell us about someone who supports you on the sidelines.

Um... I just discovered this hashtag and don't know if I'm allowed to use it considering I hate coffee, but yay writerly chat!

Anyway, I'm very supported by my lovely family. My dad stole my author copies to read.

I'm fortunate that there isn't really anyone close to me who isn't supportive of creativity in general and my writing as an expression of mine. My wife, obviously, does the most to keep me sane and likes my stupid […]

The darling partner is quite the reader and not bad in the spell checking department, she'll be my proof reader before I think of querying

#WritersCoffeeClub 8th Oct ~ Tell us about someone who supports you on the sidelines.

My wife is my biggest supporter but I have a number of others, friends and family, who are supportive whether or not they read my work.

It’s my partner, although ‘on the sidelines’ doesn’t really do her justice. Her contribution to my last non-fiction book was such that I would have liked…

#WritersCoffeeClub for 8th October 2026 Tell us about someone who supports you on the sidelines.

My adult son is a big fan of my #writing. Otherwise I get most support from the online writers group I belong to and from my beta readers.

Elthea and i were supported by our fathers, who didn't want their first-born daughter taken as less than human, or her brother/cousin called out as a girl

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 7: Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction?

That depends entirely on when you ask. The first few rounds are mostly about adding the things I skipped behind [ADD THIS LATER]. But once that's done, it's trimming, trimming, trimming.

#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 7: Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction?

Mostly addition At least historically. A sketchy version, dialogue and scene directions. A few little details here and there. First round of editing is about putting flesh on those bones.

Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction?

Mostly rearranging. I write as I think, but I am a bit scatter-brained. Editing requires making it read normal.

Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction?

A great deal of my editing process is about character and continuity. My first draft, I usually don't have the characters' voices and vocabulary clearly distinguished in my head, so they all tend to sound the […]

Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction?

Addition with smoothing. I get the shape of the idea down, then usually add supporting material for what made sense in my head but not on the page. The rough draft doesn't usually have anything that isn't […]

#WritersCoffeeClub 10/7 Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction?

Addition. There are always more explanatory footnotes to make.
