Instead of worrying about making sure everything is clear, this makes me want to try new things with my own work. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

yigleshi is making me think about how being presented with translations that possess two meanings that couldn't be more different really caught my attention and makes me even more curious on how it came to be #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

Yingelishi made me think again about translation. I usually think of translation as putting the same meaning into a different language. But this showed me how sound and interpretation can add a lot to meaning #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

Even though I didn't understand the words, I felt something when I heard them. I learned that I don't always need to know exactly what something means to connect with it #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

I tried over and over to understand what was being said in Yingelishi at first. I stopped trying to understand every sound and just listened in the end. After that, I paid more attention to the  rhythm #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

Since SME 2 turns the fragment into a disrupted audio monologue, I could make the voice and the actual words slightly clash with each other. Yingelishi made me realize that confusion doesnt always ruin meaning, sometimes thats literally what makes you pay more attention. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

@tharika313s.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 3:23 AM

I think thats something I can use in SME 2 because the interview fragment doesnt just have to be read normally. I can mess with the pacing, pauses, repetition or the way the voice sounds so the audio is doing more than just repeating the words. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

Yingelishi made me realize is that sound can almost create a second meaning even when the words stay the same. The way something is pronounced, repeated or heard can change what I think im supposed to feel from it. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

My biggest takeaway was Yingelishi made me notice how uncomfortable it can feel when I cant immediately understand what im hearing. Instead of ignoring that confusion, the poems kinda make you sit in it and realize that listening doesnt have to mean fully understanding. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

#hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes times the combination of music/delivery of the poem/my confusion would make my brain so uncomfortbale that it didn't want to keep listening. That tension, though, was by far the most interesting part of this whole experiment to me! Although I know we weren't supposed to

#hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes would just make me more confused because it didn't make logical sense with what I was expecting/reading off the page! I felt a lot of this friction/tension in my head specifically. Sometimes, the music would make it subside and I would feel happy/relaxed/serene, while other

#hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes there were additional syllabus in the beginning/middle/end of what the English "translation" was supposed to be, which threw me off as a listener. My brain would try to rationalize each of these differences by connecting them with another word/syllable in my brain, but that

A question Yingelishi leaves behind is: How can I break down the border between media? How can I construct a new but relevant idea from two different things? #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

@moremoer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 3:03 AM

Yingelishi will change the way I approach future SMEs by challenging me to think beyond a linear track of thought. It brings up angles with multiple mediums and encourages you to dissect them. Revealing a word where they combine to create a completely new idea. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

@gabi-senior-year.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 3:00 AM

#hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes My biggest take away from Yingelishi was how it forced me to confront the friction as a listener, and even intentionally engaged to the friction at certain points. For example, there were several times throughout each poem where I, from my English perspective, found that

based on perception (we were provided with an English pronunciation of what we heard from what was being spoken). #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:58 AM

Where I see this all relating to future SMEs is when it comes to perception of word choice and sounds to generate multiple different meanings to a listener. This whole exercise was partly to show us how an entirely different meaning can be generated #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:57 AM

I found that I felt unfamiliar sounds “hitting” rather than passively flowing into my ears. This makes sense as an English speaker and speaker of other languages, I am not familiar with others I do not know, so hearing new sounds stimulates my brain in a different manner. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

@bakedbyjuj.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:57 AM

with Yingelishi in mind, SMEs seem to truly make much more sense and now I see much more creative direction moving forward. the endless capabilities with so many different media forms makes this kind of experimenting so exciting #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes

with what we consider unconventional speaking patterns, we also determine their fluency with how natural it sounds to us, individually. At this point in my listening, I also stopped cognitively thinking of fluency and instead focused on what I was “feeling” from it. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
