The charm gets mad at Ataru and the little thing starts attacking, ending the exam...of course, not only did Ataru fail, but the staff thinks he's insane, so it's time for the makeup exam on Monday...and they'll keep an eye on him. #UruseiYatsura

Honestly, to me, the joke would've been funnier if the spirit bullshited his way to helping and convinced Ataru to write in ancient Japanese...but he still fails because he wrote it in ancient Japanese thinking it was modern Japanese. #UruseiYatsura

I'll admit, the literature part is clever as you're supposed to translate Modern Japanese...but it's an ancient spirit and since language changes over the centuries, he can't do it. That's clever...but I still saw the punchline coming a mile away. #UruseiYatsura

Times up and everybody has to hand in their papers...but Ataru and the charm were too busy insulting each other on paper and now's when everybody notices the little guy and he promises he'll do better in the lit---

Wanna guess the running gag? #UruseiYatsura

Ataru did put a cheat sheet in the charm...but the charm is a living creature and threw it out as he'll help Ataru with the questions...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFBm...

Yeah, if you can't tell, the punchline is the charm doesn't know a lick of English. #UruseiYatsura

See, we know Ataru's character at this point, so having it NOW? We're not waiting for the punchline like we should, we're waiting for it like...

#UruseiYatsura

Study time's over and it's time for the test. When it looks like Ataru's about to cheat, Onsen takes the charm his mom gave him...but now Lum demands an apology and Ataru...rolls with it. #UruseiYatsura

It's another study day, and...

#UruseiYatsura

Lum tries again to get Ataru back to normal and everything seems fine so its' back to studying! Except Ataru won't even open a book.

...uh...why didn't he just take one of his note-Atarus? #UruseiYatsura

Now we got a bigger problem, it turns out the note-Ataru...comes in layers like a notebook, so whenever Onsen hits Ataru, a lair comes off. Ataru and Lum...figure the best way to solve this is sell each note copy at 100 yen.

Ok, I like that Lum was in on it. #UruseiYatsura

...ok, I owe everyone HALF a coke as now the note-clone is starting to mimic everybody.

Also, follow up, why doesn't Lum just tell Mendou about the situation with his notebook? I think Mendou would rather let her keep it than be around Ataru-book. #UruseiYatsura

Yep, with Ataru's clone body being empty souled, but with all the notes on it, the Stormtroopers move everybody part to get the info.

...go to the corner for whoever made the "Long division body part" joke. #UruseiYatsura

Ok, before I continue, I'm gonna predict that this isn't gonna do the clever thing and have Ataru-clone spew nothing but subject matter and he'll just be an empty robot like thing that everybody's gonna abuse. If I'm wrong, I owe everyone a coke-zero. Or Pepsi if you prefer. #UruseiYatsura

Lum screws up the copier and...we have a 1950's Fly situation with the clone merged with notes and covered in it...and Ataru merged with the notebook as his soul is in the book!

Ok, that's actually funny! #UruseiYatsura

The copier goes like this, put an object in, a double comes out...and Ataru is in the tube. #UruseiYatsura

So yeah...BOTH chapters that were the basis for this episode were so early in the manga's run that Viz published them before the manga went on that looooooooooong hiatus before our modern release.

I spoke too soon...as she just pops in...offering to make the stormtroopers a copier to copy Mendou's notes...

...so...why was it Shinobu that gave Ataru a dressing d---oh, right, right, early manga. #UruseiYatsura

BTW, sign of this being so early in the manga? You notice in the chaos with Ataru in a skirt, it's Shinobu dressing him down and asking if he has any pride...right before he blackmails Mendou with a grey hair?

Yeah...Lum's not in the class. #UruseiYatsura

Mendou refuses to tutor the dudes, but the women flock to him with tones of questions.

Do I even need to point to the fuku next to Ataru?

Also, I just realized this is the first time in their relationship ATARU is the woman. #UruseiYatsura

Sometimes it's VERY clear this is proto-Ranma and proto-Akane right down to sharing the same braincell and if folks didn't ship Ryuu with Benten then Shinobu was the "other" option!
