The last 3 years has been very much a tail wagging the dog situation in this institution, and the tail are politicians, donors, and the media… NOT the #faculty who are ONLY reason why the current admission rate for #UMich is… 12% (even lower out of state which is almost half our students)

The University of #Michigan has been giving me the biggest headache in the last 2 1/2 years.
This was an LS&A decision. The university leadership and Regents have no right to meddle in unit decisions

And it’s rich that people who never went to #UMich are calling these kids coddled or- dumb?

Most days, woking at my alma mater feels nothing like going here.

Other days, I find myself eating chicken broccoli bake for lunch in South Quad. #umich #umichdining #tastesthesame

The Dean of #Engineering at #UMich is a woman #electrical #engineer (Dr. Mingyan Lu whom I know a little bit), and the previous Dean was a woman too.
One thing #Michigan does well enough is put enough women in leadership to scare off men who want to treat women like this.

That is why #UMich I think to its credit has some of the oldest #medical students in the country. They want people with life experience for what is at its roots a #humanities field, not a STEM one. We deal with people at their most vulnerable every day, not machines.

Everyone we referred to on this thread has now died, so these are old photos. I did see there were faculty who were at #UMich who later won Nobels (Gerard Mourou, Paul Milgrom, Omar Yaghi) but I guess they all left before they won their #Nobels.

Kyle Maas (U.S. Taxpayer party)- #UMich is #research university, should work with other #healthcare systems to "pull back and focus on core mission"; right now state of #Michigan has one of most antagonistic relationships between #healthcare systems I've seen

We had our #UMich #Regent #Candidate Forum yesterday. Paul Brown (Dem) is incumbent; other incumbent Jordan Acker ignominiously lost primary. others would all be new.
Around 48:30 there is question about #MichiganMedicine #financial tensions - low #reimbursement, inadequate #staffing and #pay

Happy to report nobody at #UMich has their head far enough up their butt to do this (I have been to pretty much every parking lot on campus)

The most you may get by winning a #Nobel prize is a free gold pass, which you will share as a hunting permit with a bunch of lowly #medical #doctors

Admittedly #opera is not my thing, I'm more of a #musicaltheatre girly (though I did see Don Giovanni performed by #UMich #opera few years ago and they knocked it out of the park), but I definitely get behind making the #arts accessible to all instead of only #culture -less trashy billionaires

A woman Bond (actually an all women movie, women Bond villains too, or transgender) would be amazing but is never gonna happen

I remember a few years ago #UMich theatre put on an all women’s production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and it was epic

Basically UT-Austin has exactly 2x the number of Asian students, but 5x the number of Asian families living in the state than #Michigan does. Imagine the hissy fit Bo French would have about the number of Asians at #UMich 😂

Obviously #UMich gets waaay more out of state undergraduate students than UT-Austin does (47% vs 10%). If anything the Indian students at UT are more #Texan than the white students there.

I was curious about actual numbers. Roughly 25% of University of #Texas #Austin undergraduate students are #Asian, or ~11,000 students. (including both South and East Asian). 2 million TX residents are Asian

At #UMich it is ~20% of total student population, ~6500 students. ~400k MI residents Asian
