Also...relevant.

Wait, WHERE ARE HIS PANTS?!
(Oh he's wearing a fundoshi...y'know I think the animators were horny for Onsen and this was them relieving some desires)
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode181 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

This episode is basically just shirtless Onsen porn, and also the way the animators are drawing him I'm surprised he's single!

Y'know...sometimes I kinda wish Tsubame didn't exist because Sakura has more on screen chemistry with Onsen-Mark and this man needs to be laid...BADLY!
Look he's a muscle bear and he looks good tied up!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode181 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

I'm enjoying this episode for VERY based and shallow reasons.
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode181 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Also guys...this is anime original!

What's interesting is due to the month long hiatus we get the same animation director for two episodes in a row as Masaaki Kannan did this one too. They would also become a regular AD on Maison Ikkoku.
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode180 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

WOW! They flipped the Ataru asshole switch on HIGH for this episode!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode180 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

So gonna show what the manga did so we have better context…
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode180 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

So folks two things:
1. The basis for this episode is from the early manga chapters. Like around Volume 5.

2. After this episode UY went on a month long hiatus in Japan!

Does anyone get the feeling Rumiko Takahashi would be good at erotic horror?
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Also need to point out the manga again because Takahashi’s art…evokes…things…
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Yup, as far as design goes...Mendo's Dad is proto-Soun Tendo!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Also the fall atmosphere REALLY lends well to this episode (considering we're in September)!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Yes, I am drinking during this episode. So this is fitting.
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Um...Sakura does not seem to have the best luck with snakes!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

I would be VERY scared if you put Sakura, Luffy, Goku and Toriko at the same dinner table!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

See the anime gets more points for being more atmospheric and actually giving some connective tissue to Sakura's past as the manga just gets more to the point on her inhaling the Sake Spirit!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Soooo…here’s the manga chapter cover for what corresponds with this episode!
#UruseiYatsura #LUM #ThoseObnoxiousAliens #Episode179 #AnimeRetroRewatch @digiranma.bsky.social

Yeah, Ataru is a BRAT but he ain't letting NO man get near Lum's lips!
