#Sliders Comic 7 cont'd.
TBF Jerry O'Connell's story is vastly better than the shite served in both the "Darkest Hour" and "Ultimatum" comics as well as the main run.

Wade as baddie doesn't work as there's no story behind it and doppelganger stories only work as story when the actors get involved.

#Sliders Comic #7 "Special #1: Narcotica" (01-Nov-96).
Anti-drugs story written by Jerry O'Connell himself.
The art work is excellent, the likenesses too. The story is heavy handed but fast moving and well meaning. Maybe it's a tribute to River Phoenix who Jerry knew but it's not stated so?

#Sliders Comic #6 "Darkest Hour #2: Dimensional Shadows" (Nov-96).
Another stupid Sliders arc that dumps on the premise. The two new worlds visited in this comic run so far are actually good but the main arc is trash: alien Zercuvian leader has cursed the Sliders to become evil.

So fuck-n dumb.

Ken Steadman who played Cutter died in a dune buggy accident.

I did think this production had very elaborate and dangerous scenes. The death on location was caused becasue Steadman and another unnamed actor (injured) were not wearing the safety belts.

#Sliders TV ep 3.06 "Desert Storm" (01-Nov-96).
The advantages of Californian made TV is noticeable now compared to Vancouver.
LA actors are better albeit all seem to be slumming it on TV hoping for better movie work.
Great production values, ok ep. #MadMax with the chick from #JeepersCreepers.

This ep has very high production standards and wasn't just the usual lazy effort. The leads were in fine form so the reason I call it a pile of crap is that the premise for this world is so unbelievable. Compared to the down to earth reality of ep #5.04 this is forgettable.

What a pile of crap. To make matters worse Sabrina Lloyd gets another ep about dreams. That girl must have her motorbike left on outside the studio every evening.
God I hate how vacuously sunshine filled LA TV looks. Come back Vancouver!

After a lot of trash finally a good ep again. I could even buy the timeline explanation.
We're back in SF which looks exactly like LA!
John Rhys-Davies has his escape clause activated!
Quinn's home has yet another makeover but his real mam returns!

As we are now filming in LA so we are suddenly getting the LA actors. Eg Darla from #Buffy this ep

Be interesting to compare the LA acting pool with Vancouver.

The prior ep #3.02 stated that the new range of their Slide device includes LA. So that means they don't need to pretend it's all in San Francisco anymore but like who de F needs another show set in LA?

Case in point this ep. Total shit as sci-fi. The writers are incapable of putting a sci-fi story togehter. No wonder htey are robbing off the (marginally better) comics writers.

I liked seeing the Vasquez Rocks again but that's all.

The A-Plot of an Earth that has turned cyber is decent even if the characterisation of the reguars is off, eg: the bit with the copper coins is so dumb that it must be relevant later.

Those dumb f-ing aliens are back so are likely going to be on the TV show soon alas.

#Sliders Comic #5 "Darkest Hour #1: Fissions of the Soul" (Oct-96).
It's hard for the comic writers as that hack Tracey Torme has already lifted ther shit idea about aliens and stuck it in the show. So Torme is encouraging them to be bigger/wilder yet the TV show is a mess most of the time.

They do some old nonsense to set up Logan as a recurring baddie. I bet anything we never see her again.

The bullet scene with Wade is the final straw in terms of me believing that a single person involved in the creative side of this show has a clue how to make Sliders.

Still this is Sliders so a couple of good moments doesn't make a good ep. There's no talent behind the camera or involved in ensuring this show is good. As ever it has so many heavy-handed, lazy errors.

Jerry O'Connell's hair changes length several times this ep!

First ep made in S3 and i've no idea why they led the season with that poor second made ep.

The B-plot of Rembrandt meeting his "biggest fan" who goes full Kathy Bates was LOL.

The really bad bit was when the guy reveals Quinn and Logan are the same person. Was so poor.

These first two eps are clearly made in L.A. as opposed to Vancouver. I bet it was much more fun for everyone as it looks toasty and dry.

The clean future city story in this ep much more suits L.A. as a location shoot too. So it's a very decent production decision.
