I’m #TeamQuartz in #MinCup26 but today’s
#sciArtSeptember prompt carbon lines up with graphite, so I am sharing my #linocut of Millie Dresselhaus (née Spiewak; 1930 – 2017). She was a professor of physics & electrical engineering at MIT, known as the Queen of Carbon Science.

In this linocut I’ve

Day 30! - #carbon

Double duty! It’s also #BirdWhisperer Project posting day.

Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius). Found in mature forests across Europe and parts of Asia.

The deep black was a challenge, but it fit the carbon theme nicely.

#SciArtSeptember Day 29 Pelt is the American Mink. Once again the mammals kick my butt, but look at that long noodle girl!

On the left, a colored pencil drawing head on of an american mink. It’s a dark brown ferret shaped guy with white splotches on the chest. Mine looks like a cat but it’s fine. On the right is an ink drawing of a side view of the same mink. She is a long long gal. Very noodle shaped.

Today's #SciArtSeptember prompt is "Bone". So I'm taking inspiration from spongiform bone structures for today's #inkyDays drawing.

Here's an in-progress shot.

Hand drawn generative/procedural art in ink on an open page of my sketchbook. The abstract pattern is inspired by structures in bone.

Day 29 of #SciArtSeptember the prompt is pelt, so I am sharing my beaver print. The trade in beaver pelts had a profound impact on the history of this country.

My beaver lino block print is hand printed on delicate, translucent, handmade

Day 29 - #pelt

Hairy Ghost Pipefish - officially described in May of this year.
About the length of a matchstick - this little seahorse-relative mimics floating coral debris.

#SciArtSeptember #fishart #watercolor

Watercolor painting of an orange pipefish covered in hair-like filaments. In profile, facing left. Scientific name (Solenostomus snuffleupagus) to the upper left. Named after the Sesame Street character Mr. Snuffleupagus

For Day 29 of #SciArtSeptember #Pelt I took some liberties and went with a baby California kingsnake—Lampropeltis californiae. "Lampropeltis" apparently means "shiny shield": λαμπρός (shiny) and πέλτη (shield), "in reference to their smooth, enamel-like dorsal scales." 🐡🦑🧪

(One more day to go!)

For Day 28 of #SciArtSeptember #Linen I tried to commemorate this epic hammerhead shirt that I used to see @whysharksmatter.bsky.social wear at conferences. It probably wasn't linen — but it was lit. (This one still in your closet, David?) 🐡🦑🧪
