#WIPSnips for Sept. 5 is 'panel'

I'm honestly surprised to find this one in the #Polynesia #mythic fantasy story, but yay.

excerpt from 'Sea of Life, Heart of Fire' by Maikel Yarimizu
the word 'panels' is highlighted

When the wind and the rain had retreated to their far-off homes and all was quiet again, only then did Hiiaka and Puanani peek their heads out the door of their shelter to see what there was to see. And what did they find? An island, built up in the usual way around a high mountain with a broad skirt of grass and forest wrapped around. This was perhaps the smallest island Hiiaka had yet visited, but at a glance it looked perfect. There were no scars or breaks from errant eruptions to mar its surface, and every tree seemed perfectly placed within its forest. Even the clouds looked different: white fluffy things circling the mountain peak, so unlike the earlier storm clouds.
So tiny was the isle that the magic shell could have circled it three times in a single hour. This made it easy to find the sole settlement, a pretty little village decorated in flower garlands and carved wooden panels of fabulous intricacy. “What a wonderful place?” Hiiaka thought as they approached, but her eyes had experience now to note the oddities. There were no boats lining that perfect beach, and neither nets nor lines nor any other sign of the fishing craft was apparent. Instead, there was a strong feeling of magic power flowing over it all.
“Let us be careful,” she said to Puanani and ʻApapane. “This place is more than it seems. I believe there to be gods and sorcerers about.”
