We become poets because we read poetry and think, I want to create worlds like that #PoetrySky

beneath the moon
a thousand broken masts
point towards heaven
like prayers
that never arrived

where a siren's call
becomes an invitation

and every warning
a love song in disguise

🎨 The Sirens (1892) by John Longstaff.

The Sirens (1892) by John Longstaff. A drowning man reaches towards ghostly female figures above a dark, turbulent sea, surrounded by rocks and eerie green light.

One Inch - a #poem about not giving up.

I live with a poet, she wrote the words that #CultureMatters have just published, it's good and you should read it.

There is a bar with no name, a blond bartender I can barely make out and a rotating cast of characters

I find my poetry here some mornings

I haven't drank in years

I must stop looking
For you everywhere-
Especially when I damn well know
That you're already there.

A brilliant, clever, thought-provoking poetry collection! I loved each bold and uncanny voice in every poem - fantastic work 🖤 @helenivory.bsky.social #BookSky #PoetrySky #Witches

A blue graphic. A quote reads: ‘Let's put a crow in this box. Let's push the dead of night to the corners of this cage and harken what it has to say.’ The book is Constructing A Witch by Helen Ivory. A #Selkie is a merseal from Celtic #folklore. They transform into humans by removing their pelt. Losing their coat means they cannot return to the sea. A snippet of a #poem I wrote:
#poetrysky #FolkloreThursday #writingcommunity

Title: skin-bare selkie by @k13uanh

Poem: submerging in suspended silt she sifts through sunken memory languishing breaths bathed in fleeting comfort the pool swallows her calcified carcass her skin dissipates

Graphic: shows grey doily and wax golden seal on the top left, skeletal remains of a seal on the bottom left and a ripped page of the poem verse on the right on a sage-grey background

#poetrysky

I saw the edges of heaven
Burn past the trumpet of his name
Glowing soundly in the rain
An everscent sheer
Made leaves fall silent
On evergreen grass
I could see the artist through the briarwood
Wrapped her body in the thicket
Made a sign of the cross, the chalice, and the pentagram
And flew with tools
I barely remembered to use

to claim your low rhythms
you surrender the tempo
while i conduct your breathing
