First Redwing of the Autumn in the park (Woodhouse Moor). Hopefully lots more to come.

But no Spotted flycatcher and likely none this year now we're into October - records only on Aug/Sept other years (grey bars on the graph).

31 spp for the week of birding in the city.

Graph of peak count of my Redwing versus Spotted flycatcher records in an urban park over 10+ years. Spotted flycatcher, grey bars, a few records in August and September as birds pass through. Redwing, orange bars, arrive in October and then present through the winter, eventually leaving in April.

Another great day on patch today, 2 Grey Plover (the second time I've seen any here) 6 Little Egret, a juv White-tailed Eagle, and yet again, even more Hen Harriers. I have seen at least one every day that I've gone down for the last 3 weeks! #PatchBirding @patchbirding.bsky.social

Delighted to get good views of the Sykes's Warbler at Girdle Ness today. I saw it only briefly yesterday morning, realised it was something significant but was unable to pin it down. Later, I scoped the bushes from home and got it on the house list🙃

My morning trudge round Girdle Ness wasn't a total waste of time, as I found this lovely Rustic Bunting near the Battery. My first record here.

Grey plover being blasted by the waves on Spanish Battery Rocks, Tynemouth this evening. Not a common bird here by any means, even if I was hoping for better given the easterlies and murk. Newly arrived brambling and wheatear late on provided some hope for tomorrow though... #nebirding #patchbirding

Bull Point yesterday a.m: modest visible migration, mainly Meadow Pipit (105), Skylark (23) & Linnet (73). 3 Great Sp Woodpecker high over the lighthouse were bizarre! A Goosander was a patch scarcity, and mating Wall Browns a delight. Nice views of feeding Rock Pipit too. #UKBirding #patchbirding

A nice day on patch today, highlights being 2 rather nice male Black Grouse, my first flock of Pink-footed Geese, large numbers of winter ducks, my first Whooper Swans of the autumn and another male Hen Harrier they are becoming an almost daily occurrence! #PatchBirding @patchbirding.bsky.social

The 200th species for my 2026 south Shetland 10km Patchwork Challenge: a first winter Red-breasted Flycatcher in the stunted sycamores at Sumburgh Hotel garden this evening. #PWC2026 #patchbirding @patchbirding.bsky.social #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #Birds #UKWildlife

It's the time of year when Yellow-browed Warblers find their way to lonely coastal sycamores. This was one of two along the north side of Girdle Ness today.

Lovely to see this Semipalmated Sandpiper up close at Keyhaven this week, often shadowed by a Little Stint #hantsbirds #patchbirding #ukbirding

The highlight of seawatching at Girdle Ness today was my first Black Tern of the year, but this 'close enough for record shots' Sooty Shearwater was just as enjoyable. Also, 2 Little Gulls, 4 Arctic Skuas, 2 Manx Shearwaters and a Great Skua.

Morning walk around the patch in Riogordo, Málaga. Highlight was a Hobby which obligingly paused on its way south. Also Iberian Grey Shrike, Rock Sparrow and a few Willow Warbler.

A nice mix at Girdle Ness today: two Pale-bellied Brent Geese along the harbour shore, a juvenile Little Gull in the same area, a Lesser Whitethroat peering from the hawthorn, and a juvenile Mediterranean Gull in the south harbour.

Amazingly, yesterday's grey partridge made another appearance at Tynemouth today! At dawn it was running around on the short grass and concrete paths at Sharpness, about 700m away from where it was yesterday, before disappearing into the long grass once again... #nebirding #patchbirding

Nice wee treat at weekend there, with only 2nd patch Sabs in 10 years & longest ever views. A lot more Terns too, with only the 2nd Black of this autumn here.

Fuckers ruined earlier post bemoaning lack of action this autumn, the inconsiderate cunts.....
