First saw Altman’s KANSAS CITY in 1996, upon its release. I was only in high school then, but I dug the loose, rambling vibe of it, which feels analogous to jazz itself. The reviews sucked.

#NoirCity screened it over the weekend. The critics look even dumber today.

Love #BlackAngel so much and seeing it on the big screen was pretty special. One for students of Woolrich and Duryea diehards for sure. But I also really enjoy seeing Lorre in one of his less-unhinged (more hinged?) roles.

Hate to admit this as a Chicagoan, but I like Preminger’s MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, which screened yesterday at #NoirCity, more than Nelson Algren’s exhausting source novel. The cast is great—Sinatra, in particular—and Elmer Bernstein’s score is obviously a thing of brilliance.
