@woodee.bsky.socialDream Theater - Awake (1994)
In the early 2000s a work colleague says "You like drums right? Listen to this...". From the first drum fill of "6:00" I was pretty much hooked!
This lead to over 20 years of buying all albums and watching them live every tour! Classic album!
@woodee.bsky.socialSchool Of Rock (2003)
I think any film that Jack Black stars in, is worth seeing at least once.
Good mix of rock and punk on this soundtrack plus Jack Black himself with some very talented kids!

@woodee.bsky.socialWhat Dreams May Come (1998)
Don't remember a lot from this movie, just that it was visually very dream/nightmare like.
The soundtrack tells the story by Michael Kamen (RIP), not all sun and rainbows.
I think I should watch it again soon.
Robin Williams (RIP).
@woodee.bsky.socialAntz (1998)
This was Dreamworks Animation first attempt at a feature length animated movie. Problematic cast by today's standards but "ignorance was bliss" back then.
It was just a coincidence that Pixar released "A Bug's Life" in the same year right? Odd :)
@woodee.bsky.socialRadiohead - Kid A (2000)
Another album that reminds me of my college years. 3 years after the stunning album which was "OK Computer" came a much more experimental sound direction which the band would be moving towards.
@zorobama.bsky.social@woodee.bsky.socialAmerican Beauty (2000)
I saw this movie at the cinema while at college. I clearly wasn't paying attention at the start because the ending came as a shock to me :)
The music is beautiful, big fan of Thomas Newman.
@woodee.bsky.socialIron Maiden - No Prayer For the Dying (1990)
This album probably around the time I first saw Maiden making "hits" like "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter" and "Mother Russia".
I haven't listened to a single Maiden album I disliked so far. Solid rock!
@woodee.bsky.socialNirvana - From The Muddy Banks Of the Wishkah (1996)
Released 2 years after Cobain's death, features songs recorded live from multiple years. Gives the impression it's one big concert.
Feel loose and live which I think is where Nirvana were in their element.
@woodee.bsky.socialJoe Satriani - Joe Satriani (1995)
His 6th studio album with a real mix of music. There are some relaxed rock grooves and also what could be described as experimental pieces?
Not my fave album of his, but still solid music here and there.
@rommana.bsky.social@woodee.bsky.socialOpeth - Sorceress (2016)
An album i've not played much but it's pretty good. It's pretty chill reminding me of their "Damnation" album.
It still has it's moments of rocking out, time signature changes and the usual progressive rock tomfoolery.
@woodee.bsky.socialPorcupine Tree - Signify (1996)
I usually don't like some of PT's earlier works, but I think this album is one of the turning points to more approachable music.
Still has some ambient music like "Light Mass Prayer" but the rest are still pretty good!
@rommana.bsky.social@woodee.bsky.socialIron Maiden - Somewhere in Time (1986)
Pretty unfamiliar with this album apart from a couple of tracks. "Wasted Years" is an absolute classic. Maiden albums in general are pretty solid. Most of the time the songs feel like they are galloping along :D
@woodee.bsky.socialPortishead - Portishead (1997)
This band has such a unique sound and aesthetic. They will always remind me of my college years.
This is their 2nd studio album and doesn't seem to grab me the same way their debut (Dummy) did. However it's not a bad album at all!
@woodee.bsky.socialAlice In Chains - Dirt (1992)
Again one of the bands I came to late. Probably gave them a chance because someone recommended the song "Snuff the Rooster". I looked up the song meaning and it's quite touching. Jerry Cantrell wrote it for his dad who was in the vietnam war.
@woodee.bsky.socialSteven Wilson - Harmony Codex (2023)
This one nearly slipped through the net for me. Unique in the way it has some ambient instrumental elements to it which are cool. Definitely need to listen more to see if any particular tracks "pop" for me.
