Some autumnal loveliness in this morning's #Norwich moth trap. Green-brindled Crescent & Black Rustic #moths #teammoth #mothsmatter #bugsky #norfolkmoths

With heavy rain in mid Cheshire early in the evening and more forecast for the early hours I nearly didn't put the trap out. Glad I did, my first November Moth along with five Black Rustic, a Merveille du Jour, a Turnip & a couple of Shuttle-shaped Darts. #teammoth #mothsmatter

The Satellite. Last caught here in February reflecting the adult’s overwintering life cycle.

Has partly carnivorous larvae

Eupsilia: ‘truly bare’ from the smooth patch (stigma) on the forewing which has no scales

transversa: marks across the wings

Grey Shoulder-knot (Lithophane ornitopus) North Antrim Oct 2026. Looking like it could be a good year for this scarce moth locally. #moths #mothsmatter #teammoth #gcampbellphoto @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @europebutterfly.bsky.social

#teammoth 24/11 here in North Derbyshire. 8 Box, 2 Black Rustic, 1 SMW, Small Dusty Wave, 2 Lunar UW. NFY was a Blair’s Shoulder Knot. And then possibly 2 NFG 🥳…..with…I ‘think’ Beaded Chestnut and November Moth. #DERBYSHIRE #MothsMatter #moths #insects.

Blair’s Shoulder Knot was new for yearBeaded Chestnut…..I think which would be new for my garden. Another I’m not 100% sure of, and one that evaded my garden last autumn is what I think is a November moth.

The highlight of Saturday's daytime moth visit to Clare was the discovery of the leaf mines of Phyllonorycter medicaginella (Medick Leaf-miner), a recently established resident and a species new to Suffolk. Spotted on a Melilot species by our eagle-eyed CMR. #mothsmatter

I had this moth in the trap in mid Cheshire last night. I thought it must have been a Lunar Underwing until closer inspection. Now leaning towards Beaded Chestnut. #teammoth #mothsmatter @mothiduk.bsky.social

Lots of activity around the garden moth trap in mid Cheshire this evening. Warm, still and overcast. Here Carcina quercana, Red-green Carpet and Spruce Carpet (I think). #teammoth #mothsmatter

Only 48 moths of 23 species last night BUT a first Southern Brindled Green and a first Merveille du Jour to make up for it 😍

An excellent educational visit (yesterday) to Clare with the Suffolk Moth Group resulted in records of just over 100 (mainly) micro moth species across two tetrads. Some really nice species seen and plenty of photos to go through. Here are a few to start with. 🙂 See ALT text. #mothsmatter

Emmelina monodactyla (Common Plume). Larva found at rest on Common NettleBucculatrix frangulella (Buckthorn Tuft). Leaf mine on Purging Buckthorn. Not previously recorded from this part of Suffolk.Coleophora anatipennella (Pistol Case-bearer). A very small larval case on Blackthorn. Feeding windows nearby.Ectoedemia erythrogenella (Coast Dot). Leaf mine on bramble. Appears to be spreading inland.
