#KCvDEN Postgame, Janine Sonis:

"I think the game plan was clear, we were very aware of the threats that they pose, and I thought in the first 20, 25 minutes, maybe even 30 minutes, we really played our game."

#KCvDEN Postgame, Janine Sonis:

"I'm probably a bit too emotional to have a…helpful view on it. I mean, I think that there's just times where we're our own worst enemy, and we just put ourselves in positions where we make things really difficult on ourselves."

For me, as much as the players needed to step up here, so to the coach. Tactical inflexibility of running of Gaetino Island 2.0, no field stretcher at the 9, KC able to play downhill most of the game with no threat of reprisal.

We've seen this side so rarely BEATEN. KC did it twice. #KCvDEN

FINAL: KC 4 | 1 DEN

Can't sugarcoat a 7-1 aggregate loss on the series for Summit. KC are a bad matchup for Denver, have Chawinga, blah, blah, blah... Armas isn't throwing curveballs, folks. He steps on the mound and dares you to hit the fastball. Cushing had 180' of at bats. #KCvDEN

FINAL. KC Current win 4-1. They move into sixth for now, but won't fall below eighth this weekend. Haley Hopkins will be the headline. Overall, a very good day for the Current. #KCBaby #KCvDEN

55’ GOAL KC

H³ wow. Summit get absolutely scorched overtop the whole team.

Gaetino has to do better there on the intial ball and then picking up Hopkins as KK jumps to hold up Chawinga.

KC 3 | 1 DEN #KCvDEN

47’ GOAL KC

Haley Hopkins gets a layup after a massive breakdown in ball control from the Summit CBs and then Abby Smith.

Everyone gets some blame pie there. KK needs to come for that ball and shield it from Hopkins if Abby calls to clear it.

KC 2 | 1 DEN #KCvDEN

HALFTIME: KC 1 | 1 DEN

This has the feel of one of those games where Denver will have to surmount opposing play + momentum.

Need these 3 points, time to show that grit from the Reign match. #KCvDEN

The restart was held a bit for a potential foul, but it stands. Five minutes to halftime. Cooper gets the assist on Hopkins' goal. #KCBaby #KCvDEN

35’ ABBY SMITH PK SAVE AGAINST DEBINHA

Abby guesses correctly, as usual, and Debinha can’t get enough power on the ball to beat Smith. #KCvDEN

Kaleigh Kurtz has been great so far. Really calm and well-positioned on these Chawinga and Cooper breaks.

KC’s attack, while still threatening in the counter, looks a shadow of itself airborne Bethune to maestro the middle. #KCvDEN

Called a big game for Heaps today. 💪 #KCvDEN

Jumping in late with a #KCvDEN Match 🧵

That Heaps goal was the result of a front four passing pattern they’ve tried a few times this match. Getting KC’s defense to commit one way the going the other.

KC 0 | 1 DEN

What is up with KC's field all the grass coming apart😬 #NWSL #KCvDEN

Have to think #KCvDEN - Bethune + Heaps = 3 Points on Summit’s playoff path.

Croix was the straw stirring the drink for KC last go round—a bummer for Chris Armas to be without her and for soccer fans witness her ball this weekend.

Big game for Lindsey incoming. #SummitUp
