The drive of my pool robot was so worn down that the propeller kept slipping. So I designed a new one in #FreeCAD and 3D printed it.

The orange drive spins constantly and locks into the propeller via a helical dog clutch, so the propeller only turns while the […]

It's #FreeCADFriday! Skip the screenshot if you want, just reply with one thing: what FreeCAD tool or workbench have you used the most this week?

We'll go first: Part Design Defeaturing, it's been a lifesaver on STEP imports lately.

For those wondering how they work: a quick demo of suppressing individual pattern instances and overriding spacing for specific ones directly via On-View Parameters.

Last minute addition for 26.3: Part Design gets new pattern types: Circular, Path and Point, distributing instances along curves, points or concentric circles. All patterns now support suppressing individual instances - including the original instance - right from the 3D View.

#FreeCAD #CAD

FreeCAD introduced new pattern types in Part Design: circular, path, and point.

The same tools including linear and polar are also available in Assembly to insert objects along a pattern as links to behave like one rigid object where joints can be added at every instance.

103 PRs merged this week. PartDesign exposes new circular, path and point pattern tools with suppression controls. CAM had 29 PRs alone, including Fanuc postprocessor support and a new ramp method.

#FreeCAD 1.1.4 has been released. This is a bug fix version release which comes with no new features.

Release notes are available here: github.com/FreeCAD/Free...

You can download the new version from the official FreeCAD download page: www.freecad.org/downloads.php

@freecad.orgSep 29, 2026, 5:57 AM

FreeCAD 1.1.4 is out, fixing over 30 bugs in the stable v1.1 series. No new features, but notable fixes include a Part segfault on faulty geometry and safeguards against ZipSlip vulnerabilities. Update recommended.

Years ago I built models in #SolidWorks. Since then I've switched to #FreeCAD, but I still wanted to bring over some of my old models. Instead of rebuilding them by hand, I gave #ClaudeCode an #MCP server for each app and let it do the migration.

It worked […]

Side-by-side screenshot of the same 3D model, a rectangular tool holder block with several pockets of different shapes, open in SolidWorks on the left and FreeCAD on the right. The two models look identical.

Yesterday, I've made a replacement handle for the spout of our rainwater tank which broke off. It has a snug fit and worked first try. It's made from ASA which should withstand the UV exposure with no issue. :3

New items have been added to the #FreeCAD Swag Shop, like this T-shirt. I was a bit surprised that a typical FreeCAD user looks like the young woman in the picture, but that is just a fact.

The shop was setup by the FreeCAD Project Association:

Use the Facebinder to loft between two parts that have no sketch geometry, like wing sections from an imported airfoil profile. A handy trick for when standard lofting tools don't apply in Part WB.
