For P. flavescens, the dense PDH-ir arborizations in the brain also appear to originate from only ~11 cells per hemisphere (A). They are located near the accessory medulla and send fibers across the medulla's surface to the lamina, forming a dense arborization pattern (B). #FluorescenceFriday

Another πŸ‰πŸͺ°: This time, a female globe skimmer (Pantala flavescens). These dragonflies can be found in large swarms here in πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅.
Its brain is smaller than that of S. albardae, lacks innervation of the ocelli and most of the lobula, but shows broad arborizations of the large lamina. #FluorescenceFriday

Happy first #FluorescenceFriday of October! I'm going with Halloween inspired images this month, so am recycling this Slimer cell from last year. Microscopy by @stjuderesearch.bsky.social graduate student Christina Wang! πŸ§ͺ πŸ”¬ πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬

This #FluorescenceFriday we have an Endosome sorting itself out!
37min of PI(3)P (green) positive sorting endosome with fluorescent Transferrin in Magenta. The sorting of Transferrin is tightly interlinked with PI(3)P intensity. Soon we will publish how cargo sorting controls PI(3)P levels!

Happy #FluorescenceFriday.
Single immune cell migration is fascinating. But these cells can also behave like a coordinated collective, like 🐝 from a hive. I captured some embryonic myeloid cells (πŸ”΄) displaying swarming behaviour in a migrating ectoderm cell sheet (πŸ”΅), like neutrophils in our body!

Actually, it’s bioluminescence, not fluorescence πŸ€”β€¨But I’d love to see these mushrooms glowing in the dark someday. They were deep in the woods, though. Hopefully, I’ll find some growing near a road next time! πŸ„βœ¨

Happy #FluorescenceFriday. The first time I imaged a 🐸 embryo, I didn't realise they had these ciliated cells on the outer surface. So you can imagine how surprised and curious I was! These cilia are similar to those found in the human airway. And yes, this is just a good old confocal + πŸ”₯LUT!
