Join us for #StetChat TODAY, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT. We’ll be hosting a round of 🚩 Red Flag Roulette 🚩

In Red Flag Roulette, we’ll pose questions about hypothetical red flag clients and #editing situations, and we’ll talk about how you’d deal with them.

Rebrand! If "editor" means "glorified spellcheck program" to the people you want to hire you, rebrand yourself to talk about:

✔️ Communications/Writing Specialist
✔️ Compliance and Quality Expert
✔️ Content Manager
✔️ Publications Specialist

All LLMs can do is produce a string of words most likely to appear in that order.

They cannot innovate linguistically the way humans do!

At heart, what we do as editors is facilitate communication, and communication is about people.

Editors are people people.

(This is not a joke slide, @korystamper.bsky.social clarifies! LOL!)

Editor is not about rules: It's about communication.

Editing is not about imposing rules; it's about communicating!

Fun fact: in pre-Christian pagan societies, Hallowe'en was traditionally the time when authors would employ copyeditors to revise their manuscripts, ensuring clarity and consistency prior to publication. Also, I have availability in October: paul-sellars.github.io/contact.html #BookSky #EditorSky

Today, for fun, I decided to count the number of times in an 11-page, AI-assisted document that a variation on "not X but Y" was used.

I found 20 instances.

Twenty, in eleven pages.
