Last night, @snurb.info and I were lucky to catch up with 10 out of 72 (!) authors of chapters in the Routledge Companion to Social Media and Politics (2nd. ed) on the sidelines of #ECREA2026. It was really special to see all these wonderful and talented folks, some for the first time in person.

Pretty neat panel on cross-platform news exposure, and methods for tracking it, to end the first full day at #ECREA2026 / #ECC2026. Liveblog here:

How expensive is democracy? That was one of the questions underlying today's keynote by Frank Esser at #ECC2026 #ECREA2026

A powerful example of why this year's conference theme, Shifting Grounds, feels particularly relevant.

Day 2 of #ECC2026 #ECREA2026 Conferencing!

We kicked off the Keynote lectures with amazing Lenka Waschková Císařová from @medjourmuni.bsky.social

One idea that particularly resonates with me: peripherality is an analytical resource, not a disadvantage.

Interesting question at #ECC2026 / #ECREA2026: “what do we (communication scholars) lose if we adapt too slowly ?”

My answer: some enterprising grifter will move in ahead of us, with all the wrong answers. As we saw with Jonathan Haidt and the social media bans, in Australia and elsewhere.

📣 I recently contributed to 360info’s collection of articles on the ‘Age of Anger’, and have just republished my piece at snurb.info – addressing the fallacies of ‘social media bans’ and pointing out infoglut as the real problem. May be of interest to #ECREA2026 folks:

With no thanks to Slideshare's issues, I've finally posted my own presentation from the DigiWorld #ECREA2026 pre-conference on the blog. This is on behalf of a much larger @qutdmrc.bsky.social research team, and is our first attempt to use the Meta Content Library properly.
