Before I moved to San Diego, I roamed across my home state of #Georgia for five years with a camera and took pictures. Here is image number 465 from the series.

📍 Riverdale, Georgia USA

The Wolves We Become I was the one they never wanted to see. A face from another world, who once walked a different street, same cracked flags, same corner shop where we took chances same coins scraped from the back of the couch. Now it's my shoes on their step, my badge swinging from a grubby lanyard, clipboard pressed against my chest. A sigh lingers in my throat. Questions, tired from practice, crowd my mouth. The door opens slow, stale air, nappies, rotting hope, a toddler sticky with quiet. Mum's eyes dart, voice stretched thin, the scrape of shame buried under blank defiance. She's a reflection the mirror won't hold still. And I think about what placed us here, the tilt of a moment, an unthought choice, me on the step, her on the inside, and the necessary words in my mouth. Now I name risk. and watch the phrase land like a hammer blow. The kid watches me, wary. I do not know who 1 am in that look, a lifeline, a liar, an intruder, a good intention. Sometimes you are the wolf at someone else's door. And you can't even tell if you're there to guard or devour.

1. Doors Of skin wrinkle in tides, or move in layers as a dress to be peeled like a bell backwards and forwards, forwards and backwards, until a door is opened and new skin screams with it's tolling tongue into the world, yanked out by one who wishes to reduce pain in the doorkeeper.

Vigil After De Profundis (1909-12) by Austrian Expressionist poet, Georg Trakl (1887-1914) Mortuary steeped in night. I keep watch while my father sleeps. Death’s stark, chalk-relief visage Blur-shifts into candlelight. Fly-buzzed, soft musk of flowers. Numbed and hushed – my heart attends To the wind tapping lightly at the door, Which opens with a bright click. Ripened corn ripples as the Sun glistens in the cope of heaven. With tree and bramble fruit-bountied - With air wing-churned and moth-skimmed, Country folk mow tall grass in the Hot, thick still of noon.
