Day Twenty of #30dhs2k26: 110/100

Joined a D&D group today so I thought I'd do a little delving into Caspian's mind again! Question for all of you: what animal (that you would consider fast) would you think I would be?

Caspian always knew how he met his fate. Desperation and desire mixed poorly with making deals with things you should not make deals with. But at the end, even with all the monstrous parts of his form, he had found freedom. Even if it cost him the entirety of his life before he was in fact free.

He often said he would exchange the pretty dresses, the delicate food, the fancy castle all for freedom of his duties as a “lady of the castle”. And here he was, free of that. Free but with nothing but the clothes on his back and the monstrous powers he acquired. Cursed but… free.

Day Nineteen of #30dhs2k26: 143/100

Finally a Syrus piece without spoilers : ) Just reflecting on making Syrus a G-man and what that means in a world that has the supernatural!

Harming something to reduce harm was so fundamentally American, it honestly shouldn't be surprising. It didn't matter that the Agency was called the Defense Against the Paranormal, just like the other Defense related offices in government, it could really be considered war.

Like all naive, bright eyed agents Syrus had joined up specifically to defend his home from the things that go bump in the night. By some lucky miracle he did wind up in the Search and Rescue Division, the division that was mostly in charge of saving people. But even there there were missions that Syrus wasn't sure really qualified as rescue.

Was it worth it? 20+ years in and more stains on his record than he'd truly like? Maybe. But it was the only place that could change what he wanted to change. And maybe then it was worth it.

Day Eighteen of #30dhs2k26: 165/100

I always force myself to write a Castle piece on this day because of it's significance in his lore! I worry they're getting a little too samey from year to year now, but I think this one is just different enough to stand alone!

It's been colder the last few days reminding me that it's September at last. The world feels a little more melancholy as the weather drops, almost suiting for a day like today. It might be bright and cheery outside, but my heart is heavy even as I sit in the sun's rays.

I think at this point in my life I look back upon our memories together with more fondness than grief - the bright points and not the rainy September day where I stood beside your grave. But this day, I allow myself to wallow in the decades old grief of not having you in my life. For other days I might celebrate your life, but this day I honour your death.

It might be so simple as the poetic prose on this page, but I honour it just the same. For the world deserves to be reminded of when its bright stars left. And I promise to be a bright star in your steed.

Day Seventeen of #30dhs2k26: 637/100

TW: Violence/Death. STILL MASSIVE SPOILERS but it's the last day for them for now. I did say it get worse though, didn't I? I'm still not 100% happy with how this scene came out but "make it exist first", right? I'm sure I'll have more fun re-writing this : )

For a moment this situation almost felt surreal. Here Syrus was, twenty feet in the air above the corpses of his coworkers - suspended by the family he disavowed possessing his partner. Everything he had done in the past five years was crumbling around him. Every step to undo the tethers this family had in this town gone like the light out of his fellow agent's eyes. Every hope of undoing the harm Syrus had unknowingly done with the very magick that was holding him in place.

Anger boiled in him, white hot and livid. Then - with the last strain of his restraint breaking - Syrus screamed.

Black and rust-orange sparks crackled off of Syrus in turn and he glared down at the face of his partner and lover, the very same sigils in his eyes mirrored one of Syrus's own.

“I won't let you fucking have him!” Syrus snarled out, pulling even more energy into himself. The thing controlling Henry looked surprised as Syrus managed to break the telepathic control over his body and land on the ground.

Syrus had never pulled from his family’s magick this much. He was practically glowing with it as he turned all his will and concentration into one thought. Give me Henry back.

The figure above him shuddered, the sigils fading from his eyes, as a panicked expression alighted on Henry's features.
“Hen!” Syrus called out, relief and despair both making his eyes well with tears.

“Sy!” A more familiar tone in Henry's voice came out in a rush.

“You have to fight her, Hen! You can't let her have control over you!”

“Sy, I don't have time, it's fighting for control again! You have to kill me!” Henry shouted back.

Syrus swore he misheard him for a moment. The energy flowing in him faltered for just a second in surprise but he just kept pulling. “What? No, Hen, no! It's OK! I can manage keeping the connection at bay for long enough if you just fight like-”

“Sy, listen to me. If you don't kill me now, there is no chance to stop this. It has to be you, Sy! You have to kill me!” There was this almost manic determination in Henry's eyes.

“Hen I can't.”

“I'm begging you, Sy. Please don't let me become that thing. Please… please kill me.”

Syrus could feel it in the magick he was pulling, that the thing inside Henry was fighting back hard. There wouldn't be much time to make this choice. Part of him already knew the right answer, as much as the other part wanted to fight and scream for another solution. It didn't matter how much energy Syrus pulled, how many people’s lives he shortened…. He wasn't going to save Henry.
Tears welled up in Syrus’s eyes as he raised his firearm to point at the love of his life. “I'm so sorry.” His voice broke. “I’m so fucking sorry.”

The briefest of smiles. “I love you too.”

Bang.

With a sickening crunch Henry's body dropped twenty feet to the ground. Syrus broke his connection to the magick and went sprinting after him. “Henry!” he screamed so loud in desperation, it tore at his throat. He skidded on his knees in front of the crumbled form of his partner and turned him up to face him.

Lifeless eyes with a bullet wound directly between them greeted him. Blood trickled from the wound down his face like tears. “No! NO! Henry you gotta stay with me! Henry, please!”

Like a man possessed, Syrus quickly laid Henry flat on the ground and began CPR. Rust-orange magick flickered back to life around him but mostly in vain. “I'm not gonna let them take another fucking thing from me. Henry, please!!!” Tears streamed down Syrus's face as he kept trying.

But Henry didn't respond.

Day Sixteen of #30dhs2k26: 384/100

TW: More gore, though not as much as yesterday. Still MASSIVE spoilers. BIGGER this time. My players will spoiler a major plot point if they read this so DON'T.

Also I know you won't believe this, but it gets worse from here : )

There, in the high ceiling of the tower, was Agent Logan Conway. He looked like something out of a horror movie, suspended by an unseen force, struggling and screaming in agony. There was a flash of rust-orange coloured light, a wet, god-awful ripping noise, and the screaming cut out.

Syrus felt his entire body run cold, as Conway’s went limp. No. Was all Syrus could think. No, it can't be.

Conway's body went flying off to the side, joining his fellow agents in the assortment of bodies on the ground. Syrus didn't dare follow it with his eyes, training his weapon squarely at the figure that had been behind him, watching it move a blood soaked hand in front of its face and examining the digits.

And when the figure moved its hand away to reveal its face, Syrus's heart dropped into his stomach.

“It took you long enough.” The familiar voice of Syrus's own partner, Agent Henry Colt, echoed in the space. “I was about to run out of things to do.”

A pair of sigiled eyes looked down at Syrus, black sclera with a familiar wyvern in bright rust-orange blazing down at him. His family's magick, the magick of the Leeds.
“H-Hen?” Syrus's voice shook as much as the weapon in his hands. It couldn't be him, it couldn't be.

A wicked grin spread upon Henry's features, a look so evil that it changed the planes of Henry's face to something unrecognisable. “Sorry, Hen is unavailable at the moment. I guess you're stuck with me.”

“Let him go! He's got nothing to do with this!” Syrus called out. “He's useless to you!”

“On the contrary, Sy.” The nickname felt like an insult coming out of his partner's lips “He is very useful. If you're so determined to shirk your own familial duties… Might as well take what I can get.” The person in Henry's body examined his hands again.

“If she wants me, she can have me. Let him go!” Syrus's voice cracked under the strain of his own desperation.

“Too late now.” Those sigiled eyes glowered down at him. “We no longer have a need for you now, Cypress.” That blood soaked hand outstretched and with a crackle of rust-orange magick, Syrus started to rise into the air against his will.

Day Fifteen of #30dhs2k26: 181/100

TW: I get a little graphic with the gore here. Also this is MAJOR SPOILERS for my campaign. I wanted to use the next few days to get this scene FINALLY written down, but I'm already struggling and had to pause it a few moments earlier than I'd like.

Syrus pushed through the doors of the abandoned watchtower, the current Leeds Point DAP Field Office. He was about to announce his return to his fellow agents when something heavy landed in front of him with a sickening crunch. Startled, the young agent looked down at what it could be and with a dawning horror he realised it wasn’t a “what”.

It was a who.

Coal coloured eyes quickly scanned their surroundings. Carnage. The bodies of his fellow agents scattered around like grotesque ragdolls, crumpled over desks and limply tossed onto the ground. Blood pooled beneath them, flesh torn as if a great beast had managed to get their claws on them.

Syrus’s breath quickened, his gaze darting from corpse to corpse in abject horror. Agent training kicked in a moment later and he pulled his gun from its holster on his hip. “What the fuck?” his voice was barely above a whisper, his throat almost paralysed by the sheer bloodbath around him.

A scream stirred him out of his thoughts and with it, Syrus’s gaze - and weapon - finally turned skyward.

Day Fourteen of #30dhs2k26: 415/100

Wowoweewow a two image post! I'm happy I finally felt inspired enough to write so much! I mean I guess technically the scene could of ended before Emil called Stefano but how could I not write a little of my #1 blorbo? This is TEW fanfic if you squint.

“Go home, Emil.” Emil's tired eyes slowly shifted towards the imposing figure of Detective Nicolae Riviera in his office’s doorway.

“We're so close, Nic.” Emil’s voice even sounded exhausted. He turned his attention back to the white board he's been staring at for the last several hours, begging his mind to come up with something, anything.

“And you're not going to figure it out with you barely standing up.” Riviera crossed his arms.

“I can't rest, Nic.” Emil didn't turn his eyes away from the same crime scene photos he's been staring at for years. “He was rushed this time. There has to be something.”

“Emil.” There was a pause and then a heavy sigh. Emil felt rather than saw Riviera get closer. “He is not going to kill again so soon. He's always had a long cooling off period. You will do so much better at figuring it out if you went home and slept.”

Emil shut his eyes. Every fiber of his being was so tied, so absolutely exhausted. But the Headhunter had been his white whale, the serial killer that just kept getting away. Again and again and again. He didn't want this victim to be another dead end.

A hand rested on his back, just light enough for Emil to jolt out of the contact in surprise. “Emil. I'm serious. I'll drive you home if I have to.
The forensic psychologist shook his head. “I'll call Stefano. He's closer to the station anyway.”

There was a disappointment that crossed Riviera's face that the detective was lucky Emil didn't see. “Alright. I'll wait till he shows up before heading out just in case.”

Emil nodded despondently, still staring at the crime board. He fished for his phone out of his pocket and clicked Stefano's speed dial.

“Pronto.” Stefano answered quite quickly.

“It’s me. Do you mind if I crash over your house tonight? Riviera is saying I shouldn't be driving with how tired I am.”

“Of course, caro.” Stefano's voice sounded a little… eager? given how late it was. “Uno memento.” Emil could hear the sound of Stefano putting on his gloves. “I will leave shortly.”

“Thank-you. I'm not sure how much sleep I'll get but… at least I can bounce ideas off of you if I can't.” Emil pushed up his glasses to rub at his eyes.

“Absolutely, caro mio.” a beat. “Now if that is all…”

“Yes. Sorry. I'll see you soon.”

“Ciao.” and Emil heard the hang up noise.

Day Thirteen of #30dhs2k26: 160/100

This is technically a spoiler for my campaign (not that they know why) but I just had to write some Kit for this particular prompt. I considered the two of them having an argument but this just was easier on my tired brain.

Kit Sparks went sliding into a crouched position as bullets whizzed over their head. They hit the wall of their cover hard enough to cause their partner, Syrus Holt, to grimace as he braced against it.

“What the fuck?” Kit’s voice sounded incredulous. “Who the fucks shoots at the Feds.”

“Desperate people. Stupid people. Take your pick.” Syrus responded, checking to make sure a bullet was chambered in his Glock 17.

Kit awkwardly repositioned their legs to fish their M1911 out of its holster. “They’re monster breeders, I’m gonna go with both.”

Syrus, despite the situation, fixed his partner with a little smirk. “Yeah… Alright. Wait till they reload, and go left. I’ll cover you.”

“Wilco.” Kit responded, the word coming out sort of reflexively.

The two DAP agents kept their position for a moment until the sounds of bullets flying over their heads died down. Then, like a practiced dance, the two Agents rose from their crouched positions simultaneously.

Day Twelve of #30dhs2k26: 137/100

Wrote this spoiler filled piece while in call with two of my players and couldn't ask for help when I was stuck beCAUSE IT'S SPOILERS! Anyway, struggled a little but it came out alright!

There wasn't a funeral. The DAP didn't want to risk another attack where even more agents were going to be gathered. Instead there was a very solemn, very small private gathering of their immediate families.

Syrus had begged to attend Henry's. But West had told him that his family did not need to see him there. He had considered going regardless, to say his final goodbyes… but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. His family had suffered enough.

So there was Syrus standing and the freshly turned graveside. Another storm was brewing on the horizon as he stood there, despondently staring at Henry’s grave. He ought to say something, have words to bring this chapter of his life to a close but the only thing he could muster was “I’m so sorry, Hen. Please forgive me.”

Day Eleven of #30dhs2k26: 195/100

Back on my spoilers for Syrus bullshit. This scene is actually framed as what happened right before what went on in my game session tonight. I actually mentioned the mound of sugar packets in session lol

Syrus sat on the outside deck of the Oyster, gazing into the creek that shared its name. The salt marshes around them made the smell of salt ever present in the air.

In the distance were storm clouds. The wind hadn't quite picked up here, but the foreboding horizon wasn't too far off. Like always in this humid state, it would rain. Something terrible by the darkened hues of those clouds.

“I don't think I'll ever get used to these storms.” Henry spluttered as the two of them dashed into the Oyster, their suits clinging to their skin.

“Well if you would have listened to me, Hen, this wouldn't be a problem!” Syrus shook out his hair which was resembling that of a wet mop at present.

“Noted! From now on I will actually trust the local!” Henry gave Syrus a cheeky grin, only made funnier by the fact he looked like a wet dog.

Syrus sighed, swirling his coffee to kick up the mound of sugar that was likely on the bottom. He sipped it and lowered his head to look at the table. He had to get the fuck out of this town.
