Ontological slippage means where the system reveals its limits, and we get to choose how to respond. Eg. when ChatGPT gave you an answer that you don’t want, or it’s not getting the perfect one you want. How are we redirecting the conversation and turn it into something useful #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

#hwa4 #wherethingsslip "ontological slippage" is when a norm is viewed outside of its norm, for example, when someone who thinks in black and white looks at a piece of media and understands a new area of grey. such as when chat gpt doesn't understand its prompt

@samanthalavender.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:58 PM

ontological slippage is when someone shifts something to whether or not it’s real or fake.

it shows up in part 3 when the LMS twist things that are reality #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

Ontological slippage is the moment when rules of how things are supposed to work stop working. Like in Yingelishi you expect language to mean something clear but it creates both sounds in one. In part 3 we are given the example of AI because it doesn't fully understand context #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

So GPT can, for example, produce something so confidently and sound genuine, until you recognize that it mentions something that isn't true at all, so you begin to shift from "AI understand the subject" to "This AI produces the appearance of understanding".

Ontological slipping describes a certain kind of change in understanding something.

It's like this, you believe something is one thing --> you find information that goes against your belief --> you begin questioning what that thing actually is

I will say for me that ontological slippage means when something changes or guest misunderstood. For example, how technology can some what make us believe that AI can understand us, which now it makes us believe what is real. What is not anymore. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

“Ontological slippage” is when the standard is lowered, and something fake can feel real. AI hallucinations are a good example because the LLMs can present false information in a way that sounds believable. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

The term "Ontological slippage" refers to a shift from an accurate, genuine, narrow meaning to one that can be true but also false. This is highlighted in part 3, which discusses translation and how it can change the true meaning of something. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

To me otological slippage means where an AI system starts behaving in a strange way and then we get to take control of what we want the AI system to say.

I think AI sometimes makes us believe it understands us because of how confidently it responds. But that doesn't always mean the answer is correct. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

@ryanl26.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 6:42 PM

Ontological slippage is when LLMs mimic humans to the point where we mistake people trying to perform as the truth. When LLMs go through performance understanding, this is an example. For media, we're going through this where tech shapes our new realities.

ontological slippage is when there is a change in traditional behavior where categories merge and us getting to change and decide how something is viewed. this was present in part 3 when talking about LLMs and in my own media thinking when looking at influencers online. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

#hwa4 #wherethingsslip Its the idea of something that is understood a certain way shifting over time or for a certain reason. This concept shows up in the idea of translations changing the meaning behind the words

@elijahawad.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 5:43 PM

Ontological slippage is when media blurs what’s real versus constructed. I think this shows in part three when we say we are able to bend reality and make it what we want to, and shaoe the way we choose. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

@maddyc15.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 12:43 AM

#hwa4 #wherethingsslip Ontological slippage is when categories start to blend together, when meanings converge and it is possible for things to be true and false at the same time. This concept shows up in part three when talking about GPT's understanding and in mine when I'm scrolling on socials

@gracetawfik.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 8:12 PM

Ontological slippage is a change in what is real when a passage sounds true and false at the same time. In part 3, it shows where categories start to intermix. It's the same when I see a video on instagram and i don't know if its real or AI. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip

@stevenp35.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 9:27 PM

Ontological slippage is a shift in what counts as real when a text sounds both true and false at the same time. In Part Three, it shows up with genre, where the lines between categories start to blur. I noticed it when I saw an AI image online and couldn't tell if it was real. #hwa4 #wherethingsslip
