✨Kudos ✨to the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social for the #NoirCity screenings, to the @noirfoundation.bsky.social for providing the superb lineup, and a shoutout to the amiable @thetallcinephile.bsky.social for closing out this year’s fest tonight. Until next year💔🥃🔫🎺🎹🍸🎶🎷

On day 6 of #NoirCity Chicago the jazz music continues late into the night. Dexter Gordon stars as a New York musician who travels to Paris to improve his life in ROUND MIDNIGHT. Then, the lead singer of a jazz band is murdered in THE CRIMSON CANARY. See you at the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social!

Cheers! Hope its a great #NoirCity! 🥃 #filmnoir

First saw Altman’s KANSAS CITY in 1996, upon its release. I was only in high school then, but I dug the loose, rambling vibe of it, which feels analogous to jazz itself. The reviews sucked.

#NoirCity screened it over the weekend. The critics look even dumber today.

I’ve been wanting to read the book for some time. I do like this film. #NoirCity #NoirCityChicago ✨

The beat continues as day 5 of #NoirCity Chicago starts off with the Gaslight Noir HANGOVER SQUARE starring Laird Cregar & George Sanders. Then, Henry Fonda is THE WRONG MAN in Alfred Hitchcock’s classic gem. Don’t be accused of missing out, get on down to the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social tonight!

Henry Fonda is a bass player in Alfred Hitchcock’s THE WRONG MAN from 1956. Based on a true story, the musician is fingered in a lineup accused of armed robbery. His wife Vera Miles suffers greatly during his ordeal. Warner Bros. #NoirCity

It’s a Labor Day triple header for day 4 of #NoirCity Chicago! First, Ida Lupino searches for THE MAN I LOVE. Then, Rita Hayworth burns up the screen as GILDA. Finally we close out the night and FACE THE MUSIC. Join us at the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social!

Love #BlackAngel so much and seeing it on the big screen was pretty special. One for students of Woolrich and Duryea diehards for sure. But I also really enjoy seeing Lorre in one of his less-unhinged (more hinged?) roles.

#NoirCity

Sure thing! Getting a souvenir from #NoirCity is all part of the fun 🤩

As Eddie said yesterday, it wouldn’t be a #NoirCity fest without Cornell Woolrich. Favorite exchange from BLACK ANGEL:

Peter Lorre: Tell her to come over.

Goon: Mr. Marko, I don’t think—

Lorre: I don’t slug and you don't think. Is that a deal?

Day 3 of #NoirCity Chicago marches on as things kick off with Robert Altman’s KANSAS CITY. Then, we head to New Orleans with Elvis for KING CREOLE. Later, we’re in Chicago as Doris Day declares LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME. We wrap up in KC for PETE KELLY’S BLUES. It’s all at @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social!

Eddie Muller shouts out Music Box Theatre organist Dennis Scott as he prepares to introduce Black Angel (1946) at Noir City Chicago 2026.

Hate to admit this as a Chicagoan, but I like Preminger’s MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, which screened yesterday at #NoirCity, more than Nelson Algren’s exhausting source novel. The cast is great—Sinatra, in particular—and Elmer Bernstein’s score is obviously a thing of brilliance.

If you’re heading to #NoirCity Chicago this weekend be sure to stop by the @noirfoundation.bsky.social merch table and see me and @maggiemac75.bsky.social for all your film noir needs! We’re set up in the lounge at the @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social.
