And then they ask why the legacy spaghetti script from 2014 is still running production.

Jonah Hill from The Wolf of Wall Street sitting in a restaurant booth, looking frustrated and spreading his arms in disbelief. The top line of text reads 'I write clean, well-documented code with unit tests' and the bottom line reads 'Fuck me, right?'

Need to switch off a big block of code? Wrap it in #If False instead of prefixing every line with a comment mark...

I've handwritten min/max range checks for the current page number more times than I can count. PHP 8.6 adds clamp(), and I might polyfill it in older projects.

Em 2024, vi devs sanitizarem 190 como se fosse +190. Sincronizar contatos exige preservar emergências locais, não aplicar DDI universal em tudo. O Country Code Fix ignora esses numerais. Como seu app lida com números de emergência na agenda? #DevLife #CleanCode https://smartlinks.live/l/UCrSM0

⚠️ Hidden cost of AI comments: slower debugging (more to read), expensive tokens (more to process), heavier maintenance (more to update). If the code is clear, the comment is noise. Keep intent only. #AI #CleanCode #DevTips

#PHPC tip: PHP 8.3 added `json_validate()`, so you can stop decoding a payload just to find out whether it parses.

It skips building the object graph, so a large webhook body costs you a parse instead of a parse plus the memory.

Most codebases rot from the inside out because we settle for soft types and sloppy habits. Lock down your architectures with TypeScript's mapped and conditional types. Build systems that don't break under pressure. 💻🔥 #TypeScript #SoftwareEngineering #CleanCode

Good Kotlin code is rarely the cleverest code in the file. Optimize for the developer reading it six months later, not for the developer writing it today. #Kotlin #SoftwareDevelopment #CleanCode

Code comments should explain why, never what—and be a last resort.

I reviewed comments AI added to my code. The useful ones captured decisions, traps and contracts the code alone could not express.

#Laravel tip most people skip: `sole()`.

`sole()` throws `MultipleRecordsFoundException` for more than one match and `RecordsNotFoundException` for none. Collections have it too, so `$collection->sole(fn ($item) => $item->active)` behaves the same way in memory.

PHP 8.6 adds a time duration class with helpers for math. It got a quick mention in my video, and I think it'll make a lot of our code easier to read.

#PHPC tip: I keep reaching for match(true) when an if/elseif ladder exists only to pick a value.

Every arm is a boolean condition, and the first true wins. It uses strict comparison, and it throws an error when nothing matches unless you give it a default.

Tiny Kotlin rule, big payoff: model impossible states out of your types. A sealed hierarchy often beats a Boolean plus nullable fields—and makes every when branch easier to reason about. #Kotlin #SoftwareDesign #CleanCode

🤔 I've been wondering... why do I forget my own AI-generated code so fast? I reviewed it carefully. I approved it. Then a couple of PRs later, it's a stranger. Clean code is the only thing that survives cognitive overload, because you will re-read that code. Make it easy. #CleanCode #AI #DevTips
