The recent proposed changes to the #2030Census could have far-reaching consequences for Native communities.

Removing questions about race and ethnicity could make it harder to understand where Native people live, identify inequities, enforce civil rights protections, and plan essential services.

Thinking about this today bc several emails received today compelled me to look up the WhiteHouse's proposals for #2030Census. It’s a real dumpster fire.

6. The administration's #2030Census proposal comes months before it is supposed to send a report by April 1, 2027, on the proposed question topics for the 2030 census to Congress, which, again, has final authority over the count under the Constitution

Told y'all yesterday that with meeting requests to discuss the proposal mysteriously canceled, we'd see the proposed #2030Census changes soon. Turns out it was less than 24 hours.

4. The Trump administration's #2030Census proposal is expected to spark lawsuits.

In 2029, a new presidential administration could reverse any census changes that current Trump officials make.

And Congress, which has final authority over the census under the Constitution, could pass new laws

3. Trump admin also proposes banning the #2030Census from asking about people’s sexual orientation. The U.S. census has never directly asked about that before. But in 2020, couples living together were asked to describe their partners as “opposite-sex” or “same-sex”

2. Under the Trump admin’s proposal, all residents of the states who are not U.S. citizens and do not have a green card would be excluded from the #2030Census apportionment counts used to redistribute U.S. House seats and Electoral College votes
