If you missed the pre-show, here’s my thread detailing how #TheLostWeekend, one of the first American noirs, temporarily lost its noir status by the mid-‘50s – till history reclaimed it. Notably, another 1945 noir that suffered the same fate is being hosted by Eddie on Nov 28. 👍 #TheNoirCollective

I also drink coke but only medicinally.

Howard Da Silva will always sound like #BenFranklin to me. #1776 #TheLostWeekend #TheNoirCollective

Cinematographer John F. Seitz was greatly influenced by Rembrandt and studied his paintings extensively, learning how the Dutch master illuminated faces with the “north light” technique. #TheNoirCollective #TheLostWeekend

I love how closely it blends in and out of the traditional instrumentation--very effective.

A little of the goes a long way. It's already getting on my nerves. #theramin needs to take a break. #NoirCollective #TheLostWeekend

Just to repeat one of tonight's ongoing themes: John F. Seitz's cinematography is outstanding. IMO it isn't "showy" but it does convey Don's desperation.

Birnam reminds me of my Grampa who was drunk everyday of his life.
Drunk he was sweet, eloquent, funny as hell, all the while telling me, a little kid, that he didn’t need the booze, just needed to know he had it in his hip flask.
Poor old Pops.

Sound up! Rózsa was the first film composer to use the theremin (the electronic instrument that became a sci-fi staple): here, to convey the unearthly hold alcohol has on Don. He’d previously used the theremin in Spellbound, but #TheLostWeekend beat it to the screen by one month. #TheNoirCollective

Same... you still have to go to an ABC store around here.

As Don enters the apartment for another bender, he is descending– like his self-esteem– into near blackness; the cinematography supports the storyline. #TheNoirCollective #TheLostWeekend

SOOOoooo many.... The Uninvited makes me hope he was like this character IRL. He's deliciously bad in Dial M for Murder, I would kill to have someone restore and air or release Wise Girl on physical media, A Woman of Distinction, Three Smart Girls... ETC!

I've never seen one before. It looks as eerie as it sounds.
