Chapter Text The cabin had been remarkably, painfully silent for nearly two years. Ever since the leavetaking of one of his daughters unexpectedly became the leavetaking of both. There had been a certain anxiety to that, knowing the nature of the occupation they were both taking on. The actual events since then had been a monumental test of his heart. A test that was slightly helped by the regular tasks of maintaining the cabin and surrounding forests plus the occasional forays into the town proper. It was helped much more by the occasional scroll call he received from his girls. Except when it carried the news of what he worried about. He stretched awake as walked down the stairs, running through the checklist of tasks for the day. Then he heard the scrape of his door across the floor and tensed up. This far out of town it wasn’t unheard of for a Grimm to stalk close in… The next steps he took were soft and quiet as he kept his eye trained in the direction of the sound. “Dad?” He blinked. There was no way that he had heard that, right? “I told you that we should knock.” “But this is our house.” He quickly stepped down the stairs and pushed forward into the front room to see his daughters and three other girls he’d become familiar with on the occasional phone call. Rushing forward he collected both of his girls up in a hug and then set them down. “What are you doing here?” He asked. “I talked to you a couple of days ago and you were still in Mistral!” “Well, then we told Uncle Qrow what you said about Raven…” Ruby reached up with her right hand to scratch the back of her hand, as she chuckled nervously.
