#Conlangity 2. I've been too lazy to make a proper IPA chart for my languages, and I'm afraid I'll continue to be lazy for now, but... we have the alphabet!

Let’s go by parts. First, I’ll post the alphabet and add an * beside the letters that are most important to remember 🧵

#ConLangity I'm not threading all these together this time :P

Athan is a big language, so it uses a lot of broad vowel sounds - more O's, A's and U's, less I's and E's. It also tries to avoid voiceless fricatives, for similar reasons.

Using what I have so far: Redwoods Tukhé is a vowel-rich language. It favors CV and CVC syllables, though some consonant clusters exist and diphthongs are common. Back vowels are more prevalent than front. Notable phonemic features like /x/ give it an aspirated quality.

Easiest way to describe the language might be like being face-to-face with a wolf that can't decide if it wants to intimidate you with growls and snarls or impress you with a howl of complex tones. 🧵

Tellari-Universal includes many sounds, but notably lacks the kind of noises you'd make with your lips, because as a reptilian species, they have a rigid jaw and lack lip flexibility.

This limitation is made up for by breaking it up with other sounds, some unreplicable by humans.

Non phonetics in sign are called parameters! Here's a video explaining the 5 parameters of ASL (sorry int. friends, I don't know enough sign outside of ASL 😅) my WIPs sign language uses these parameters as well.

It took time to listen through all the IPA sounds, but what am I to do waking up before 5 AM (Autumn hates me)

Thank you, Prof, for providing a tool to help. I had to go back and think about the sounds my characters have made to see which in the grid i could cross out

It's definitely vowel heavy with a very limited number of sounds. there are six vowels (in the standard form), and they distinguish between long and short vowels. There are almost no consonant clusters.
The glottal stop is used, but it's technically not a sound of

Ok, this gets complex, especially because I have no experience describing sounds with letters.😅

I think Shallin-Ethray (yes, I'm aware that changed from the name I made yesterday) is rather consonants heavy as revealed by its name.

I have to build it farther to know all the sounds,-/?

I'm not gonna have time to make this in the morning, so I'll just do it now.

I already made my IPA charts for Na'aqal a while back! 😁

Notable features: the glottal stop (ʔ) that shows up in words like "Mu'u," "sa'aba," & "Na'aqal." Also I borrowed the tɬ (tl) sound from Nahuatl! 🧵

p, b, t, d, k, g, q, ʔ (glottal stop), f, v, β (bh), ʤ (j), ð (dh), θ (th), s, z, ʒ (zh), tɬ (tl), Χ (Bach), h, m, n, r (trilled), l, w and j (y)Screenshot of my IPA vowels chart for Na'aqal, featuring the vowels:

Gobsprek.

Goblins speak it, mostly. Other folks who have a lot to do with goblins, as well.

Bonus: Not much - a few rules and a short vocabulary.

I needed it to show a certain character engaging with parts of herself she'd buried.

#Conlangity Day 2

What does your conlang sound like? Is it heavier on vowels, or consonants? Are there any unique sounds like clicking, glottal stops, etc? What about non-phonetic methods of communication? If you want, use an IPA chart!

This is the VIBE of your language. MORE HELPFUL INFO BELOW👇️🧵

Daily prompt for the #Conlangity worldbuilding game:

DAY 2
[SOUNDS] What are the basic sounds (phonemes) that are used in your language? Is the language heavy on consonants or vowels? Does your language use any non-phonetic units of speech, such as hand gestures, antennae movement, electrical signals, etc?

Don't just think about letters, but sounds. For example, "a" in English makes many different sounds - apple, father, away.
Also, consider sounds that English uses multiple letters for: "sh," "ch," or "th," for example.

I'm starting with 4 possible languages and will see which clicks for me. Then I'll stick with that and stop with the rest (for now, at least). They're all related to my D&D-inspired fantasy adventure setting Felcrown.

I may also be partly cheating because I've been working on this for years.
The language I'll be talking about is called Inawlo by its speakers, and is the lingua franca of the country that most of my characters live in. There are a lot of characters who speak just this language.

There’s Sheltri, (my Sheltri characters speak) but also Kudrum (speech of the antagonist race), Ancient Tellinaeic (high speech of the Sheltri), High Cirdaathan (formal Firimar tongue of the holy city in S. Central Rhadhallon), and Talfúrnian, the common tongue.
I need to choose quick!

Hi friends! I am going to talk about my language Arca’raed, which is spoken by the Istemorian people in my presently untitled political fantasy.

Bonus: Arca'raed is admittedly quite developed already, but I haven't done much work on it in quite some time. It was initially created

The one I am working on is Nivani. There's a few variations and covers ASL and braille usage as well. Anything merfolk is Nivani. I think i have 100 words written down somewhere. There are a few reasons I drove myself insane with this

The yerulo have 3 languages, Dowk, Huitalizh, Lethtalon. I'm probably going to talk mostly about Dowk bc it's the only language the human character speaks, so the faeries are forced to use it to communicate with him despite that often being hella weird.
