3/3 If crowding alone can dial molecular mobility, could cells use the same trick — no motors, no signals, just packing — to tune reactions at their own membrane? What would that change about how we model signaling? #academicsky #biophysics #philsci

@embiophysics.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 7:59 PM

1/3 Picture a cell membrane as a packed dance floor: the crowd decides how fast anyone can move. Swap the dancers for DNA 'nanostars' — branched molecules with sticky arms — and the packing alone sets the rules. #academicsky #biophysics #sciart

People set the score weights, removed failed runs and checked the humidity effect by hand. One composition; humidity during annealing was recorded, not controlled.

Open Day went well. I honestly think given good material most university lecturers could do stand-up comedy.
Every time we give a talk or a lecture it's a performance.

Just talked with a college faculty friend. He’s been out of work for years since his college closed. Why did it happen to him, to me, and so many others? Find out in “Requiem for a College.”

Visualizing #RNA dynamics in living plant cells at single transcript resolution is limited by high background fluorescence. This study develops a high signal-to-noise imaging platform that overcomes this barrier, revealing mRNA trafficking dynamics.

Announcing our 2027 Disability Caucus CfP!

"Tinkering, Maintaining, Hacking: Disability Wisdom for a Renewed Age of Fascism"
Submissions Due December 1, 2026

Disability flag background with text reading, "Call for Papers | Tinkering, Maintaining, Hacking: Disability Wisdom for a Renewed Age of Fascism
Submissions Due December 1, 2026" WGS SouthWhat wisdom does the lived experience of disability, madness, and chronic illness offer in a renewed age of fascism? “Disabled people are experts and designers of everyday life,” posit crip STS scholars Hamraie and Fritsch (2019) in their “Crip Technoscience Manifesto.” From smashing curbs to hacking assistive technology, disabled people have long been tinkering, making, and building more accessible worlds. Perhaps less flashy, but necessary, is the slow, everyday work of maintenance and care. When all we have is each other, what does the mundane, slow work of maintenance and care look like? What does it offer us?For the upcoming 2027 conference, the Disability Caucus invites scholars to submit papers, panels, and creative works that engage with this sub-theme of tinkering, maintaining, and hacking. We also broadly invite scholarship and creative works on the following related topics:

- Histories of disability justice/activism under global fascism
- Disability and the climate crisis
- Feminist of color disability studies
- Debility, immigration, and detention
- Disability and the internet: AI slop, doomscrolling, and brain rot
- Disability and higher ed
- The intersection of trans studies and disability studies
- Precarious labor, the gig economy, and disability
- Surveillance and disability
- MAHA, healthcare, and the ADA under Trump 2.0Please submit any questions to Disability Caucus Chair, Anastasia Todd at Anastasia.todd@uky.edu.

Thanks to researchers who stopped by our booth at TMRE in Denver this week, shared a controversial research opinion, and picked up merch!

We also enjoyed presenting our in-house research on why giving AI models more information makes synthetic data less accurate. #TMRE #MarketResearch #AcademicSky
