A blend of Merlot aged in American and French barrels.

3 right now, because it felt like it needed a couple of years, but I like where I think it’s going.

Survivrost by Inishie no Sato Budoshu (2024) - 3 ⭐

Yeah, that’s oak. Vanilla, shoe polish, cedar, cashew, something toasted… mellows out once you get to cashew.

Surprised it’s only 12% — the nose could pass for a stronger Spanish wine,...

Chardonnay by Shinshu Takayama Winery (2021) - 3½ ⭐

Pine, flowers, cold violets. Light sweet taste, cream, almost crème brûlée, cedar, caramel, something almost smoky at the back of the nose.

Dark yellow, small tears....

...I don’t think I’d take a bottle, even if it isn’t that expensive.

Strawberry ripens as it breathes, and bumps it to a solid 3 (I was going to say it barely got in under the wire).

Bit fresh. Raspberries, still ripening. A hint of mosto on the nose. Strawberries, also not there yet. Vibrant and drinkable, but simple....
