A small thought for the day for #smallpoemsunday from old blighty where, the governing party having removed the elected PM to replace him with a serial leadership loser, seemingly chasing a spine, we find a 1930’s shadow casting long over hope..

Parasites

They incubate
safe from the burden
of cost; children’s hospitals,
teachers, doctors,
the public good
avoided at all cost

Only to find
seventy two million
sloshing about
ready to fund
the fascists

Hullo @tomsnarsky.bsky.social and to #smallpoemsunday
Thanks for this.

No Proof

A scientist
once weighed a body
so carefully,
immediately pre
and then when cold:
the difference being supposed proof
of our soul;
be like moving a heavy curtain
and briefly seeing
a tiny moth,
disturbed by daylight
as it awkwardly flitted
just by instinct,
back to some other
blinding darkness.

a thing for #SmallPoemSunday 25 minutes before midnight #poetry

a screenshot of a poem, white letters on black

poem: so when i met the sphinx i did not ask her if there was any truth to her riddles if the game was rigged if what was waiting beyond her was worth the gamble or if there would be a second chance for someone like me
and she asked me nothing in turn as i sat down next to her and i, too, waited
for the next wanderer to pass us by

#smallpoemsunday, one of mine

1:30 a.m. hot flash

trying to work out
the glow on your chest,

brightening watch? fading through the sheet.

where is the pattern.
doze,

snap alert. ah,
the wind

canopy reveals
full peekaboo moon

In the long run
This is a race
where everybody ends up
in a tie, sorta.

You can let it off its leash…

Poem by Doug Anderson
#smallpoemsunday
@tomsnarsky.bsky.social

THE HARD, HARD THING
You don't get over it in spite
of wonderpill, don't get
to lay your burden down.
But you can find a place for it
beside a river, in a flowering field.
You can let it off its leash
where it's not as like to bite
another's hurt, but wander,
drink deep, or sleep in the sun,
head resting on your shoulder.

from his book Horse Medicine

#smallpoemsunday a little Hafiz translated by Daniel Ladinsky

Hafiz by Ladinsky

THIS SKY

This
Sky
Where we live
Is no place to lose your wings
So love, love,
Love.

Rae Armantrout from 2024’s Go Figure

ORGANOIDS by Rae Armantrout

Pea-sized human brains grown in vats develop "organized" brain waves.

Rhythm is thinking without thoughts,
I think,

which is comforting.

Then I shake my finger in a scolding way to the rhythm
of a cell phone's ring.

A half-rhyme is better than a rhyme.
It has deniability.

For #SmallPoemSunday, @tomsnarsky.bsky.social here's Welcome What Sun Will Come, collected in Little Survivors Everywhere, forthcoming from pearlpirie.com/small-press/... this fall.

Welcome What Sun Will Come

First the long note of the train,
now the owl, owoo owoo oo.
Soon, sun. Then, soon, noon.
How the day spins down
that fast it makes dizzy birds
lose track of their tunes.
No rain so we all drink light.
Crisp leaves twirl spirals
around faint trails where
raindrops once fell.
Inhale with care
this campfire air,
the hint of summer's peach
still lingering.

(for Peach Delphine, gone missing,
whom we miss.)
