Makoto is terrible at asking for help. In fact, she often insists that she doesn't need it, even when she really does.

An? Pretty often. Eva? Not too often.

Carmine and Chet? Yeaaaaaaaaahhhhhh no

#Septversary D5: Despite wildly different degrees of confidence, both of my MCs struggle to actually be honest about what they need and ask for help. One of them has been asking for years to no avail and the other has learned there's no use asking.

#Septversary in many of my stories, characters have to work together to solve problems.

And in Rhythms of Starlight, the crew of the Red Nexxus have to work together to keep the ship running. And have to work together to keep eachother alive and out of prison.

At first,Tucker & Christine are good at making decisions collaboratively.

But when they move “temporarily” from OH to NM, their goals diverge & Tucker starts making big decisions unilaterally, like quitting his job when they want to send him back to Ohio (she wants to go back).

Totally!

Thats the whole reason Jack and Charlie were put together, to collaborate on these cases. Truthfully, Jack is the caseworker and Charlie is the chaperone tasked with documenting and justifying his expenses for the committee, but she is just as much an active part of...

Happy anniversary Steph!

Late to the game but my WIP is The Contract, a prequel serial to my indie-published romance novella Together Exclusive Official. The Contract is a literary drama & the origin story for TEO’s divorced MMC Tucker Meyer.

Both Callon and Alyx have worked in fast-paced, high-stress environments: Callon’s got a lot of experience ending lives, while Alyx has a lot of experience saving them. Both can keep a level-head.

The biggest challenge they’ll need to overcome together is taking down Callon’s family.

If there's something that's a through line between my two major projects (First Light and Shadow Puppets), it's how characters naturally slip into good teamwork.

It is, I'm sure, painted by my personal distaste for certain forms of in-character friction, but...

Clara and Suzette are better at working in parallel than collaborating. Clara investigates while Suzette guards what she remembers, and both keep things from the other.

But they need each other to uncover what Rosenfeld Manor erased, before it erases even more.

In my current project, there aren't really a lot of things wherein collaboration is really specifically required, but that said, I think Weslea has a demonstrated capacity for being cooperative, as a general rule, and trying to 🧵

This is another pretty core part of my stories! My characters are often people who are pretty alright on their own, but are forced to work with people who're VERY unlike them.

Using Fire to Flowers again, Tiferet is intelligent, tactical, and charismatic; but

Amon is really good at collaborating! He and the boys make up a masked anonymous band, pulling that off and keeping it up for a number of years takes everyone’s hard work.

The chaos gremlins make an excellent team, in the field. In between jobs, Jake and Val bicker incessantly. Mostly because she can tell he isn't okay and he is desperately trying to keep her from getting close without actually driving her away because he actually really kinda likes her.

Surprisingly, yeah, they are really good at working together~ They have to work together on a lot--figuring out the reason for the sacrifices on Balaricio, fighting enemies there and later on Oliander, figuring out how to appeal to Sono, investigating the urban legends on Zeto...

As much as they antagonize each other, Gielle and Jarian work well together. Their strengths and weaknesses balance out.

A good thing since they're trying to track down Gielle's father's assassin.

To be a lie and she had to run away from it.

And Tala is bargaining between Roderika’s Denial, Mary getting used to being around nonhumans, and a new rift between Roderika and Mary over the former not being completely honest with the latter about her and Tala’s relationship.
