#2HitTuesdays Yep, Strawberry Alarm Clock had a 2nd US #Top40 hit… their follow-up “Tomorrow.” The single was rushed out in 1967 to capitalize on momentum. Later singles “Sit With the Guru” & “Barefoot in Baltimore” reached only #65 and #67. So: two US Top 40 hits, not one #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Gordon MacRae is a perfect example of why US #OneHitWonder honors sometimes need an asterisk... Yeah, he was a star before #Billboard created the #Hot100… but, technically, still a one-hit wonder during the #Hot100 era. #GordonMacRae #OneHitWondered

In 1958, Gordon MacRae had his very own teenage record with “The Secret.” Well, that’s how Capitol Records was pushing it… and the single actually connected with the younger pop audience. A bit of a late-career crossover for a singer closely associated with standards/Broadway music. #OneHitWondered

Gordon MacRae’s big voice was perfect for Hollywood musicals... He teamed with Doris Day in On Moonlight Bay and also By the Light of the Silvery Moon, then landed the roles he’s probably best remembered for: Curly in Oklahoma! and Billy Bigelow in Carousel. #GordonMacRae #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

Gordon MacRae got his start singing with big bands in the early 1940s, including the Harry James & Horace Heidt orchestras. His big band apprenticeship was the bridge between the young swing-era vocalist and the singer audiences later knew from Capitol, radio and Hollywood. #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

After WWII, Gordon MacRae had a bunch of hits on Billboard’s pre-Hot 100 chart, including “"It's Magic",” “Hair of Gold, Eyes of Blue,” “So in Love,” “Mule Train.” He also had a hugely successful run of duets with Jo Stafford. #GordonMacRae #OneHitWondered #MusicSky

A one-hit wonder? Well, sort of… Gordon MacRae was already a major entertainment figure long before the #Billboard #Hot100 era. The dude worked in radio, records, Broadway/film, and was one of the most recognizable traditional-pop singers of the late 1940s & ’50s. #GordonMacRae #OneHitWondered

The Village Stompers’ banjo-heavy mixture of folk melody and Dixieland brass helped create the unique Folk-Dixie sound, perfectly matching that early-’60s fascination with Greenwich Village. #TheVillageStompers #GreenwichVillage #OneHitWondered

The 7-piece instrumental group called The Village Stompers came out of NYC at the right moment in 1963, when the Greenwich Village folk boom was spilling over onto the pop chart. Despite their name and image, they weren’t a folk group… they were a full-blown traditional jazz outfit. #OneHitWondered
