"Evidently Chickentown," John Cooper Clarke; Clarke was a brilliant poet. I first hear this on "The Last Stiff Compilation" and it was a pleasure to hear on this "Sopranos" episode.

"Bette Davis Eyes," Kim Carnes (number1 1981-05-16); and a Phyllis Diller voice, one might argue! Srsly, it was a cool song and I'm surprised Kim didn't go further.

"Galveston," Glen Campbell (1969); even a mainstream pop song like this had depth that you just didn't get a few short years earlier. We sang this, reworded, to the departing principal in an assembly.

"Crimson and Clover," Tommy James & the Shondells (number1 1969-02-01); I didn't see it as sexual, more about drugs (vaguely). Whatever the meaning, I played the crap out of this 45.

"The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde," Georgie Fame; the film was big, and this song followed. I wasn't allowed to see the film but the song lyrics intrigued me.
@mlevel.bsky.social#MlevelSongs #MusicChallenge #MusicSky #EcksteinsMonthOfMusic Sep 6: #pills / #medicine
"This Pill," Phenobarbidols; an ode to antidepressants! The band name is a pun on a medicine too.

"She's Leaving Home," the Beatles (1967); they were unavoidable all through my school years. One of my teachers, even, played us this song as an example of modern poetry.
