@nny.bsky.social#LTHEchat Some considerations when aiming for a 'thriving campus culture' - are there spaces for students where they are not facing a computer? Do they have to spend money to be there? Do they have to book in advance? How do they know they are welcomed? How are they actively *being* welcomed?
@columfromcork.bsky.socialWould be happy to look to do that
Maybe after next week’s #LTHEchat? Would that be too late?
More on it here as well
@danceswithcloud.bsky.socialOoooh - invite us all in - would love to discuss what you did on a Zoom call - and I bet the rest of #LTHEChat would too?
@tavoer8.bsky.socialA1 Depends. Some conversations were in class; other times, in the library or outside uni. There were different topics that mattered #LTHEChat
@tavoer8.bsky.socialA2 Well, it is a free world, and they can use their time as they want. Maybe they have other commitments or a shorter attention span, etc. In learning, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation are important for engagement #LTHEChat
@columfromcork.bsky.socialThanks Sandra!
@louiserees.bsky.socialA6 - provide choice I think
Provide opportunities and signpost these if desired to interact with those on course or elsewhere?
But for those that want it...maybe they commute by driving and can't do this during that period..to reflect on what they've learnt, synthesise learning
#lthechat
@sheilmcn.bsky.sociallovely to join the chat tonight #LTHEchat thanks all
@lthechat.bsky.socialSee you all next week - same time, same place! #LTHEchat Next week, we will be joined by Tadhg Blommerde, who will be discussing Generative AI
@columfromcork.bsky.socialThanks everyone who participated in @lthechat.bsky.social
There aren't easy answers to the challenges of engagement, impact of commuting & many students having to work more and more hours
But it's great to have a discussion & see the passion people have to always seek to improve things
@santanuvasant.bsky.socialThank you @columfromcork.bsky.social for these great questions, took me back 25 years to my Uni days 😊 and some interesting replies from #LTHEChat participants 🙏
@abbis.bsky.socialA6. #LTHEchat mandatory reflection time! I had a fun exchange with an academic the other day who was so appalled at the concept of reflection work and diaries and suchlike and when I pointed out that maybe his discomfort indicated he needed to try it he was quite surprised and ended up agreeing XD
@suebecks.bsky.socialThanks for the great #LTHEchat questions and brilliant blog post Colum!
Still time folks to read the post here lthechat.com/2026/09/27/l...
@danceswithcloud.bsky.social#LTHEChat It's been so lovely being here in real time for this chat! I have loved it - thank you all - and thank you @columfromcork.bsky.social for the great provocations!
@abbis.bsky.socialA5 #LTHEchat you can't beat a good forum for asynchronous community; have a chat with your digital education specialist if you need a hand designing it.
@santanuvasant.bsky.social@columfromcork.bsky.socialStarted as one hour, then went to two
Dropped back to one, and student feedback (and some advocacy by staff) led to the two hours being reinstated
Now to push for three hours!
@tavoer8.bsky.socialA6 I think time for reflection on their own learning, their actions, why they made certain decisions, and whether they would make the same decisions again. They should not use technology, just piece of paper and pen / marker. They should write it or draw a representation of it #LTHEChat
